In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body including a proximal portion and a distal portion. The elongated body includes an inner liner, an outer jacket, a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket, and an expandable member coupled to the structural support member at the distal portion of the elongated body. The expandable member may be configured to expand radially outward, e.g., to engage a clot within vasculature of a patient.

In some examples, a medical aspiration system is configured to control medical aspiration based on a cardiac cycle of a patient. For example, a medical aspiration system can include a suction source configured to apply a suction force to a catheter to remove fluid from the catheter, and control circuitry configured to control the suction force applied by the suction source to the catheter based on a cardiac cycle of a patient.

In some examples, a catheter includes an inner liner, an outer jacket, and a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket. A surface of at least a portion of the structural support member is surface treated to increase an adhesion of the surface to at least one of the inner liner or the outer jacket. Examples surface treatments include physical treatments, chemical treatments, coating treatments, and combinations thereof. In some instances, the at least one portion of the structural support member is a relatively high density portion.

In some examples, a medical assembly includes a catheter and a delivery-assist tool. The catheter includes an elongated body comprising a proximal body portion and a distal body portion and defining a body inner lumen; and an expandable member located at the distal body portion, the expandable member defining an expandable member inner lumen. The delivery-assist tool includes a support structure configured to extend through the body inner lumen and the expandable member inner lumen of the catheter; and a flexible cover coupled to a distal portion of the support structure, wherein the flexible cover is configured to facilitate compression and retention of the expandable member in a delivery configuration while being advanced through a delivery sheath and while the support structure extends through the body inner lumen and the expandable member inner lumen.

Retrieval of material from vessel lumens can be improved by use of a distal element comprising an expandable mesh. a treatment device includes an elongated member having a proximal portion and a distal portion configured to be positioned within a blood vessel at a treatment site at or near a thrombus. A distal element comprising an expandable mesh is coupled to the distal portion of the elongated member via a connection assembly. In an expanded state, at least a portion of the mesh is configured to be in apposition with the blood vessel wall at the treatment site to anchor or stabilize the elongated member with respect to the blood vessel. The distal element can be electrically coupled to an extracorporeal current generator.

In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body that includes an inner liner, and outer jacket, and a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and the outer jacket. The outer jacket includes a plurality of outer jacket segments in which each outer jacket segment of the plurality is longitudinally adjacent to another outer jacket segment of the plurality. The structural support member includes a first section having a first density, a second section distal to the first section and having a second density, and a third section distal to the second section and having a third density, such that the second density being higher than the first and third densities. The second section of the structural support member is longitudinally aligned with a junction between two outer jacket segments of the plurality of outer jacket segments.

In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body defining an inner lumen and comprising an expandable member disposed at a distal portion of the elongated body, and a rotatable cutting tool located within an inner lumen of the elongated body, the rotatable cutting tool configured to segment a thrombus into smaller pieces while an aspiration force pulls the thrombus proximally into the inner lumen. In some examples, the catheter further comprises an intermediate structure oriented radially between the rotatable cutting tool and an interior surface of the elongated body, the intermediate structure configured to prevent the cutting tool from contacting the interior surface of the elongated body. In some examples, a stopper is configured to limit movement of the cutting tool distally past a distal end of the expandable member.

In some examples a catheter includes an inner liner, an outer jacket, and a structural support member positioned between at least a portion of the inner liner and at least a portion of the outer jacket. A first portion of the structural support member has a first residual stress and a second portion of the structural support member has a second residual stress, greater than the first residual stress. The second portion of the structural support member includes a percent cold work greater than about 20%.

In some examples, a catheter includes an expandable member configured to expand radially outward from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration. The expandable member is configured to be expanded and contracted in a controlled manner, e.g., in response to user actuation or automatically under the control of control circuitry of a device. For example, in some examples, control circuitry of a device can be configured to control the expandable member to expand and contract according to a predetermined expansion frequency or according to an expansion frequency determined based on a cardiac cycle of a patient.

A catheter may include an inner liner, at least one support structure over the inner liner, and an outer jacket over the at least one support structure. In some examples, the catheter includes a tip jacket positioned over a distal portion of the outer jacket and extend beyond a distal-most part of the inner liner and a distal-most part of the outer jacket to define a single-layer catheter tip. In some examples, the at least one support structure may include a braid and a coil. The catheter may include a marker band over a distal portion of one of the braid or the coil. The other of the braid or the coil ends proximally of a proximal end of the marker band, such that the catheter includes a location with lower radial and/or flexural stiffness proximal of the marker band.

In some examples, a catheter includes one or more balloons that, when inflated, are configured to be apposition with vasculature or other hollow anatomical structure of a patient to help anchor the catheter within the vasculature, while still permitting fluid to flow past the inflated balloons. When inflated, the one or more balloons define one or more passageways configured to enable fluid to flow past the inflated balloons in a direction along a longitudinal axis of the catheter. For example, the catheter may comprise a plurality of balloons that are circumferentially and longitudinally staggered relative to each other.

In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body that includes a proximal portion and a distal portion, and one or more electroactive elements in at least one of the proximal portion or the distal portion of the elongated body. The one or more electroactive elements each include a contractive material configured contract in response to an application of an electrical signal to the respective electroactive element. The contraction of the electroactive elements is configured to change a dimension or a shape of the elongated body. The electroactive elements may be distributed around the elongated body at the distal portion of the elongated body, such as in different axial or radial positions. The electroactive elements may comprise a nickel titanium (NiTi) alloy having a Ni:Ti composition of about 50:50.
