An impact projectile which comprises at least two impact bodies centered with respect to one another and disposed one axially behind the other with means for separating the two bodies axially upon approach to the target. The separation can be effected by thermal means controlled by a proximity switch and/or by flight duration. The projectile is especially designed for penetrating armored vehicles having multi-layer armored walls.

Impact projectile

A large-caliber carrier projectile for transporting a payload, with the projectile including an ejection charge and an ejector plate for ejecting the payload from the carrier projectile over a target area. To overcome the problem of the ejector plate colliding with individual bomblets of the payload, and thus causing considerable interference with proper functioning or premature detonations in the air, the ejector plate is an eccentric center of gravity. Alternatively, the ejector plate may be segmented and composed of at least two separable parts which are separated by the action of centrifugal force after ejection from the carrier projectile.

Carrier projectile

A fuze for a bomblet projectile of the type including a primary firing pin mounted in a housing for axial displacement in the longitudinal direction and a detonation charge carried by a slide disposed in the housing for displacement in a direction transverse to said longitudinal direction of the housing, between a safety position, wherein the detonation charge is not aligned with the primary firing pin, and an armed position, wherein the detonation charge is aligned with primary firing pin. To further improve the firing and safety devices of such fuzes and permit safe pick-up of duds, a lateral recess is provided in a side surface of the slide in the form of a longitudinal groove so that the movement of the slide, if minimum centrifugal forces are no longer present, can be arrested in an intermediate position by renewed engagement of a spring tensioned safety pin in the recess. In this intermediate position the detonation charge remains off center or non-aligned with the primary firing pin, in an interrupted line of ignition. Moreover, in the intermediate position, the slide and in particular ignition element for a self-destruct charge carried by the slide, remains spaced from second firing pin disposed laterally in the housing at the armed position.

Fuze for bomblet projectile

A propelling charge case for a munition, which charge case has a body made of nonwoven nitrocellulose-based fibers and formed to have an axial cross section with at least one curved portion, and a reinforcement member of metal or plastic assembled with the body at the curved portion and configured to not interfere with residue-free combustion of the body.

Kinetic energy projectile

There is disclosed a kinetic energy type projectile having an armor piercing head which is intended to penetrate multi-shell targets, and even sharply angled targets. The piercing head is provided with favorably discriminated shearing regions which are axially spaced apart by distances corresponding to the thicknesses of the shells which are to be pierced by the piercing head. The shearing regions are provided by external or internal localized transverse weakenings e.g. grooves, or heat treatments by electronic bombardment, applied to the external surface of the piercing head and/or in a central bore in the piercing head. Additionally, the localized weakenings may be provided by bound collars on the piercing head. The shearing regions are progressively stronger in a direction from the front of the piercing head so that they will shear consecutively as the head pierces successive shells of a multi-shell target.

An improved armor-piercing penetrator projectile includes a core made of a material having a high tungsten content which is in metallic form. The front portion of the core is in the shape of a hemisphere and includes a nose point in the form of a ballistic hood. The core extends or occupies the entire cross-section of the projectile and has a high length/diameter-relationship. The hemispherical front portion of the core is adapted to directly contact a target upon impact of the projectile.

Armored-piercing projectile (penetrator)

A forwardly concave insert for a hollow charge of an armor-piercing missile or projectile has an inner peripheral wall with linear generatrices and an outer peripheral wall with at least partly curved generatrices diverging from the inner wall surface to an annular zone of maximum wall thickness at more than half the distance from the point of the cone to its base, the outer generatrices having centers of curvature lying beyond the cone axis on radii which are perpendicular to the inner wall surface at that annular zone. The arcuately curved sections of these outer generatrices merge tangentially into substantially straight-line sections converging at the cone axis into the aforementioned point.

Hollow-charge insert for armor-piercing projectile

An explosive shrapnel shell has a bursting charge having a front end, a layer of shrapnel laterally surrounding the charge except at the end, a fuse mounted on the front end, and shrapnel in the fuse. The fuse includes a detonator charge lying between the fuse shrapnel and the bursting charge. The shell is generally centered on an axis extending through the front end and the fuse includes an axially rearwardly extending tube. The detonator charge is in and axially behind the tube and the fuse shrapnel form a ring circumferentially surrounding the tube. An intensifying charge can lie between the detonator charge and the bursting charge.

Explosive shrapnel shell

An armor-piercing projectile having a hard core and a hollow charge disposed in front of the hard core with respect to the direction of flight. A proximity fuse is arranged in the projectile and is adapted to effect an ignition of the hollow charge prior to the impacting of the armor-piercing projectile on the target.

Armor-piercing projectile

An explosive charge is disclosed having air cavities in the explosive material, so situated within the material as to guide the propagation of the shock wave produced by detonation in a predetermined direction.

Explosive charges

A submarine explosive device for cutting anchoring chains or cables of sea mines. The device is towed through the water by a mine sweeping vessel via a towing cable. The device includes a gripper body which has a pair of parallel shank portions extending in the towing direction and defining a gripper mouth therebetween for catching the anchoring chains or cables of sea mines. A stabilization float is releasably connected to the gripper body. A release plate is mounted in the throat of the gripper mouth and is adapted to ignite an explosive charge mounted in one of the shank portions of the gripper body. The towing cable is removably mounted in a longitudinal groove extending through the gripper body. Towing cable protecting means are mounted in the other shank portion of the gripper body. The portion of the gripper body in which the explosive charge is housed can be sheared off the remainder of the gripper body when a predetermined force, applied to this portion of the gripper body, is exceeded.
