A vehicle door includes a window frame and a lower surface portion formed jointly with the window frame in one piece from a hot formed and press hardened sheet metal plate which is made of a steel alloy which includes, in weight-%: Carbon 0.33-0.38, Silicon 0.2-0.7, Manganese 0.7-1.2, Phosphorus max. 0.03, Sulfur max. 0.02, Boron 0.002-0.005, Chromium 0.6-1.0, Copper max. 0.12, Nitrogen max. 0.005, Titanium 0.015-0.025, Nickel 1.5-2.0, Molybdenum 0.2-0.6, Tin max. 0.04, and as optional components Aluminum 0.006-0.08, Niobium 0.02-0.05, with a balance being iron and incidental impurities. At least the lower surface portion has a Brinell hardness of 500 to 600 HB and a yield strength of 1,200 to 1,450 MPa, wherein the lower surface portion and/or the window frame has a wall thickness of at least 6 mm.

Vehicle door of armor steel

A three-dimensional structure for armoring a motor vehicle is made of a steel plate and has a substantial hemispherical shape. The structure is reinforced by bending edges having an X-shaped configuration extending over the entire surface of the structure. Arranged between the legs of the X-shaped portion are sections which have surface areas between the legs of the X-shaped portion. The surface area of the X-shaped portion has a generally concave curvature, whereas the surface areas of the sectionshave convex configurations in relation to the concave surface area of the X-shaped portion.

Apparatus for heat-treating an elongate structural body part made from a blank compressed while being soft or from steel strip of hardenable 22 Mn B5 mod. steel sheet with a thickness of 1 mm to 3 mm, includes an apparatus for positioning the structural body part in substantially upright disposition. Placed in surrounding relationship to the structural body part is an induction element which can move from bottom to top, thereby being able to follow a contour of the structural body part and allowing to at least partially heat the structural body part to an austenitizing temperature suitable for hardening. Disposed adjacent to the induction element is a cooling unit which follows the induction element in movement direction. The induction element and the cooling unit are moveable relative to one another and connected to a tool carriage which is mounted to a column for movement in a vertical direction, in a transverse direction to the column and about a horizontal axis.

Apparatus for heat treatment of structural body parts in the automobile industry

A safety arrangement for a motor vehicle, includes at least one airbag disposed in a roof frame of a vehicle body. A pressure gas source, positioned remote to the airbag, is fluidly connected with the airbag by a connection line for supply of a pressure gas to the airbag and inflation thereof. The connection line is formed by a hollow space of the roof frame or the roof frame itself, whereby the roof frame and/or the hollow space is formed by metal sheets connected to one another in a fluid-tight manner by an adhesive joint.

Safety arrangement for motor vehicles

In a method of making a hardened sheet metal article, at least one pot-shaped depression is formed in a sheet metal blank. Thereafter, the sheet metal blank is hot formed in a press mold to a sheet metal article, and the sheet metal article is hardened. A side impact beam to be integrated in a motor vehicle includes at least one elongated bar, which has a trapezoidal cross section and terminates on both ends in ramp-like end portions, wherein the elongated bar has a central web, flanks diverging outwardly from the central web, and flanges connected to the extremities of the flanks, and terminal attachment zones. For manufacturing such a side impact beam, a semifinished flat blank is cut to size of constant width from a sheet metal material band of constant thickness and includes an elongated center portion of constant width and a length which is at least half a length of the blank, wherein the center portion terminates on opposite ends in tongue-shaped end portions.

A composite control arm shaft for motor vehicles includes two longitudinal control arms connected through a transverse beam, wherein the transverse beam has a trough-shaped double-wall torsion section essentially having the form of a V or U, approximately circular or oval tubular end sections and transition sections whose cross-section continuously changes from the end sections toward the torsion section. The transverse beam has in the transition sections thereof an internal partial foam filling.

Method of manufacturing a composite control arm shaft for motor vehicles

The invention is directed to a process for the manufacture of a metallic molded structural part (1) for motor vehicle components such as door impact girders or bumpers with areas (2) with a higher ductility in relation to the rest of the structural component part. For this purpose, partial areas (2) of a plate (5) are initially heated to a temperature of 900.degree. C. within a period of less than 30 seconds. Subsequently, the thermal-treated plate (5') is shaped in a pressing tool (7) to form the molded structural part (1) and is heat-treated in the pressing tool (7).

A method of manufacturing pipes having sections with different wall thicknesses from an initially plane sheet metal in which a starting sheet metal is subjected to a rolling deformation so as to intentionally produce areas of different wall thicknesses in rolling direction.
