Method and apparatus for cooling a fuel injection system

A fuel injector for fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, which is composed of two preassembled, independent subassemblies. In this context, a functional part essentially includes an electromagnetic circuit and a sealing valve, whereas a connecting part is essentially constituted of a hydraulic connection. In the ready-assembled injector, electrical connecting elements and hydraulic connecting elements of both subassemblies cooperate so that a reliable electrical and hydraulic connection is ensured. The valve is executed as a side-feed injector, and the electrical connection is located farther away from functional part than the hydraulic connection of the connecting part. The fuel injector is particularly suitable for use in fuel injection systems of mixture-compressing, positive ignition internal combustion engines.

The invention joins the intake module or intake tube to the engine with the aid of a displaceable retaining element. The retaining element, which in the mounted state is under initial tension, is braced against an engine retention face associated with the engine and against at least one counterpart intake module retention face joined to the intake module or intake tube. Because of the displaceability of the retaining element, the expense and effort of mounting and dismantling the intake module or intake tube to the engine by screws are substantially reduced. The plug connector is designed so as not to lie or so as to lie only slightly above the plane of the printed-circuit board, so that, viewed in the extension direction of the fuel-injection valves, a very low overall height is attained for the device. Because of the small unit volume of the printed-circuit board, of the housing, and of the plug connector, the device requires comparatively little space. The filter cloth is provided with a sprayed plastic coating except in the area of the through openings in order to fix the filter cloth in its position relative to the through openings. A first electrical contact element extends out of the valve housing, parallel to the longitudinal valve axis. Such fuel injection valves can be electrically contacted by a bank of contacts that can be mounted on the fuel distributor in a direction of the longitudinal valve axis. The novel fuel injection valve includes first electrical contact elements which extend radially outward. By rotating the fuel injection valve about its longitudinal valve axis, an electrically conductive connection can be made between first electrical contact elements and second electrical contact elements that electrically contact the connection in the fuel injection valve. In this way, a simple, very compact, safe and secure electrical contacting of the fuel injection valves is attained. The electrically actuatable fuel injection valve according to the invention is especially suitable for fuel injection systems of mixture-compressing internal combustion engines with externally supplied ignition.

Fuel distributor

A known fuel distributor, which has continuous valve receptacle openings for fuel injection valves. The fuel distributor prevents vapor bubbles that cause difficulties in engine starting to form. The novel fuel distributor has a fuel supply line split by a partition into a first conduit and a second conduit; the second conduit serves as a reservoir and communicates both with the first conduit, through a through opening, and with the various valve receptacle openings. In the fuel reservoir, fuel free of vapor bubbles can collect after the shutoff of the hot engine; upon hot starting of the engine, this makes it possible to inject fuel that is free of vapor bubbles and is readily ignitable through the fuel injection valves. The fuel distributor according to the invention is especially well-suited for fuel injection systems of mixture-compressing internal combustion engines with externally supplied ignition.
