The catheter provided in accordance with aspects of the present invention includes an elongate tube having a proximal tube portion and a distal tube portion formed by stretching the distal portion of the elongate tube. The catheter is made throughout from an identical material. The distal tube portion has a reduced outer diameter and thus is of a higher flexibility and softness. Therefore, the danger of injuries to vessels or the dura is decreased. The catheter can be produced in an inexpensive and simple manner.

Device for administering liquids to a patient

The catheter coupling is intended for providing the proximal end of a catheter with a plug connector forming a fluid transfer connection. The catheter coupling comprises two pivotable jaws enclosing a wavy channel. One of the jaws is provided with a hose in which the catheter may be inserted. When the other jaw is closed, the hose and the catheter is deformed to a wave-shape without any significant change in cross section. Thus, the catheter is secured against being pulled out.

A filter for medical fluids comprises a hydrophilic membrane ( ) dividing the filter into an inlet chamber ( ) and an outlet chamber ( ). This prevents air from penetrating the outlet chamber ( ). Owing to this arrangement of the two vent holes ( ) one vent hole ( ) points upwards irrespective of the filter position. This improves venting of the inlet chamber ( ).
