A hydraulic valve for a cam phaser, the hydraulic valve including a bushing including a piston that is movable in a bore along a longitudinal direction; a supply connection configured to feed a hydraulic fluid; a first operating connection and a second operation connection; and a first tank drain connection and a second tank drain connection configured to drain the hydraulic fluid; and a first check valve associated with the first operating connection and a second check valve associated with the second operating connection, wherein the first operating connection and the second operating connection are connectable through at least one of the first check valve and the second check valve alternatively with each other or with the supply connection or with one of the first tank drain connection and the second tank drain connection by moving the piston, wherein the hydraulic valve includes five switching positions.

Hydraulic valve for a cam phaser

A valve timing control device, in effect a cam phaser, for an internal combustion engine. The valve timing control device includes a rotor connected to a camshaft and having a plurality of vanes. A stator is engaged with the rotor, and includes a plurality of webs. Pressure chambers are provided between each of the webs and vanes. The cam phaser is configured to automatically locate to its mid-lock position, without having to rely on electronic control. At least one embodiment of the present invention is configured to use cam torque to recirculate oil from one side of the vanes of the rotor to the other.

In a hydraulic valve comprising a spool, one or more band-shape check valves and an enclosing bolt or snout, the check valve may be compressed to the point of excessive wear or failure and may impede spool movement. The problem outlined is solved by an inventive hydraulic valve for use with a cam phasing apparatus of an internal combustion engine. The hydraulic valve comprises a hollow bolt or snout, check valves, and a spool disposed inside the bolt while still being able to shift axially within the bolt. The bolt and spool are configured to provide fluid passageways between the spool and the cam phasing apparatus depending on a translational displacement of the spool. Furthermore, the spool is configured to allow an oil flow through the fluid passageway, yet limit a compression of the band-type check valves.

Hydraulic valve for an internal combustion engine

An oscillating-motor camshaft adjuster which provides that, through software, camshaft alternating torque is utilized only in conditions where the torque is adequate and/or it is important to reduce flow consumption. If there is two step lift and the camshaft alternating torque is not adequate in low lift, software can position the spool to utilize some camshaft alternating torque while also tanking oil to speed up the phasing.

A camshaft adjusting system for an internal combustion engine has a camshaft adjusting device with a first hydraulic chamber and a second hydraulic chamber, wherein the first and second hydraulic chambers act in opposition to one another. A control valve group working as a 4/4-way valve system has a first connection to the first hydraulic chamber, a second connection to the second hydraulic chamber, a tank connection, and a connection for pressurization. The camshaft adjusting system in a first state of the control valve group, when starting the internal combustion engine, is pressure-relieved relative to the tank connection by simultaneously hydraulically connecting the first and second connections of the camshaft adjusting device so that the camshaft adjusting device moves into a dwell position with a single locking mechanism. The dwell position also provides a safety function in case of system failure.
