A process control system () comprises at least one process control computer () and field units () connected thereto via a bus system. An, in particular, intrinsically safe data transmission device () is connected between the process control computer and the assigned field units. This data transmission device comprises a data adaptation device () and a data distributing device (). In order to be able to connect more field units per data adaptation device while simultaneously reducing the costs per field unit, the data adaptation device () and its assigned supply devices () have an explosion-proof design, and each supply device is connected to the data distributing devices via an explosion-proof line, whereby these data distributing devices or field units connected thereto have a barrier device for limiting the applied power.

Intrinsically safe data transmission device

A device for transmitting signals between an automation system and field device comprises a supporting plate and modules which are attachable to said supporting plate. The modules are provided with terminals especially for field devices. The supporting plate has arranged thereon data lines of a local bus and voltage-supply lines. The modules have at least local bus interfaces. The device additionally comprises at least one bus coupling module which is attachable to the supporting plate and which is provided with a local bus interface and a field bus interface for communication with said modules and said automation system.

Signal-transmission device

The invention relates to a device for an inherently safe signal matching of signals being exchanged between an automating system (,) and field devices (,). The device (,) contains input/output modules (,), which can be plugged into a backwall plate (,) and which combine the functions of conventional input/output modules and modules for voltage separation. The backwall plate (,) supports data lines (,) of a local bus (,), as well a current supply lines (,). A communications module (,) is connected on the one hand with the local bus (,), and on the other hand with a field bus (,). The communications module (,) contains device, for memorizing (,) and processing (,) data, and makes possible an asynchronous data exchange between an automating system (,) and the input/output modules (,).
