Systems/techniques that facilitate deep learning multi-planar reformatting of medical images are provided. In various embodiments, a system can access a three-dimensional medical image. In various aspects, the system can localize, via execution of a machine learning model, a set of landmarks depicted in the three-dimensional medical image, a set of principal anatomical planes depicted in the three-dimensional medical image, and a set of organs depicted in the three-dimensional medical image. In various instances, the system can determine an anatomical orientation exhibited by the three-dimensional medical image, based on the set of landmarks, the set of principal anatomical planes, or the set of organs. In various cases, the system can rotate the three-dimensional medical image, such that the anatomical orientation now matches a predetermined anatomical orientation.

Deep learning multi-planar reformatting of medical images

A method includes receiving a Computed Tomography (CT) image comprising a head of a subject from a CT scanner and detecting a first and a second petrous bone of the head in the CT image. The method further includes determining a nasion of the head in the CT image based on the first and the second petrous bone. The method also includes generating a reference plane of the head based on the nasion and the first and the second petrous bone.

A method of automatically scoring intravascular calcium. The delineation of a body surface is detected in a tomographic image produced by an X-ray CT system. Images of bones are removed from a field encircled with the delineation of the body surface. The delineations of blood vessels are detected in the tomographic image having the bone images removed therefrom. Calcium is scored using the tomographic image having the bone images removed therefrom. Only the scores of intravascular calcium obtained from the fields inside the delineations of the blood vessels are displayed.
