A signal coupling system may include a directional coupler that includes a first conductor and a second conductor. The first conductor may include a first end and a second end and may be generally arranged along a first plane. The second conductor may include a third end and a fourth end and may generally be arranged as a plurality of windings along a second plane. The signal coupling system may also include a transceiver, electrically conductively conducted to the first end; and an antenna, electrically conductively conducted to the second end. The second conductor may be configured to generate a coupling with the first conductor when the first conductor conducts an electric signal, such that the coupler conducts a first electrical signal from the first end to the second end at a second power, and conducts the electrical signal via the coupling to the third end at a third power.

A wireless device and method of power consumption reduction are generally described herein. The wireless device may map a plurality of data symbols to sub-carriers for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission. The wireless device may divide the plurality of data symbols into first and second groups of data symbols. The wireless device may generate a first OFDM signal from the first group of data symbols for amplification by a first power amplifier (PA). The wireless device may generate a second OFDM signal from the second group of data symbols for amplification by a second PA. The data symbols of the first and second groups may be selected to provide a PAPR of the first OFDM signal that is lower than a PAPR of a composite OFDM signal based on the plurality of data symbols.

Device and method to reduce power amplifier power consumption

An apparatus comprises a transmit network to transmit an input from a first amplifier to an antenna, a receive network to provide an input from an antenna to a second amplifier, a first switch to selectively decouple the transmit network from the antenna, and a second switch to selectively decouple the receive network from the antenna. Other embodiments may be described.

Integrated transmit/receive switch

An integrated circuit may include a receiver and/or a transmitter that performs third order sub-harmonic conversion. The integrated circuit may include a Gilbert cell active mixer with three or more serially-connected transistors in each of the mixer's four branches. Alternatively, the integrated circuit may include a quad-ring passive resistive mixer with three or more serially-connected transistors in each of the mixer's four branches. Alternatively, the integrated circuit may include a logic circuit and a mixer. The logic circuit may apply logic operations to periodic logic signals having a local frequency and to delayed versions thereof to produce reference signals having a dominant spectral component at three times the local frequency. The mixer may mix input signals with the reference signals to produce output signals having a dominant spectral component at three times the local frequency less a center frequency of the input signals.
