One or more devices, systems, methods and storage mediums for performing optical coherence tomography (OCT) while detecting one or more lumen edges and/or one or more artifacts are provided. Examples of applications include imaging, evaluating and diagnosing biological objects, such as, but not limited to, for Gastro-intestinal, cardio and/or ophthalmic applications, and being obtained via one or more optical instruments, such as, but not limited to, optical probes, catheters, capsules and needles (e.g., a biopsy needle). Preferably, the OCT devices, systems methods and storage mediums include or involve a method, such as, but not limited to, for removing the detected one or more artifacts from the image(s).

Apparatus and methods for correcting distortion of a spectrally encoded endoscopy ('SEE'), more specifically, the subject disclosure provides a calibration tool calibrating a rotating spectrally encoded endoscope, which may be reused to recalibrate the endoscope throughout the lifecycle, and which may further act to protect the endoscope during packaging, shipping and handling.

A spectrally encoded endoscopy optical device includes a bundle of multi-mode optical fibers that transmits light received from an imaging target to a spectrometer. A far field pattern of light transmitted through a fundamental mode of at least one of the multi-mode optical fibers is nonparallel to an optical axis of the spectrometer for reducing nonuniformity of the far field pattern at an input sensor of the spectrometer. For still further reduction of such nonuniformity, a far field pattern of light transmitted through a fundamental mode of the bundle of multi-mode optical fibers is nonparallel to an optical axis of the spectrometer.

Methods, apparatuses, systems, and storage mediums for correcting distortion of a spectrally encoded endoscopy (SEE) image are provided. A first reference pattern comprising a plurality of radial lines is scanned with an SEE spectral line to obtain a first image. Signs of a tangential shift and/or of a radial shift of the spectral line may be determined, and magnitudes of the tangential shift and of the radial shift may be computed. A second reference pattern comprising at least a circle with the SEE spectral line may be scanned to obtain a second image in a case where the radial shift is positive. The magnitude of the radial shift may be computed based on the magnitude of the tangential shift and a radius of the circle. The tangential shift and the radial shift may then be applied for correcting distortion.

Distortion measurement and correction for spectrally encoded endoscopy

Some embodiments of a device comprise a sheath, a first light-guiding component, a second light-guiding component, an optical-focusing component, and an optical-correction component. The second light-guiding component and the optical-focusing component are aligned on an optical axis. Also, the optical-correction component does not directly contact the optical-focusing component, and the optical-correction component is not positioned on the optical axis.

An optical probe includes first and second light guiding components, and a ball lens arranged along an optical axis and enclosed in a sheath having asymmetric optical power. The probe transmits at least two light beams including first and second beams each having a different wavelength. The ball lens has a curved surface and an angled surface arranged such that light is reflected off from the angled surface and focused by the curved surface at a working distance with a beam waist profile having lateral and longitudinal directions. Beam waist locations of the first and second beams are different from each other, and the beam waist profiles of the first and second beams in the lateral direction differs less than the beam waist profiles in the longitudinal direction. This ball lens design compensates for the sheath asymmetric optical power and provides balanced astigmatism and substantially achromatic performance.

A Spectrally Encoded Forward View or Multi-View Endoscope, Probe, and Imaging Apparatus and system, and methods and storage mediums for use therewith, are provided herein. At least one apparatus or system may comprise a first waveguide; an optical system; and a diffraction grating. The first waveguide may be for guiding light from a light source to an output port of the first waveguide. The optical system may comprise at least a first reflecting surface and a second reflecting surface. The first reflecting surface may be arranged to reflect light from the output port of the first waveguide to the second reflecting surface. The second reflecting surface may be arranged to reflect light from the first reflecting surface back through the first reflecting surface to the diffraction grating. The diffraction grating may diffract light from the second reflecting surface in several lights/colors of non-zero diffraction orders in a first direction.

A device comprises a light-guiding component, an optical component, and a light-reflecting component that is configured to receive light from the optical component and direct the light along a path. Also, at least one of the optical component and the light-reflecting component has an optical power in a tangential direction or a sagittal direction that compensates for a negative power of a sheath in the tangential direction to correct for aberration.

An optical probe comprises a light-guiding component, an optical component, a light-reflecting component that is configured to receive light from the optical component and direct the light along a path, and a correction component. The correction component lies in the path, the correction component has an optical power, and the correction component has a center of curvature that substantially coincides with an optical axis of the optical component.

An apparatus for spectrally encoded endoscopy (SEE) comprising an illumination element, a detection light guiding element, a rotary element, and a two-dimensional sensor. The illumination element is configured to direct an illumination light beam towards a sample. The detection light guiding element is configured to collect a reflected light beam from the sample. At least one of the illumination element and the detection light guiding element is configured to spectrally dispersed the illumination light beam or the reflected light beam, respectively. The rotary element is configured to rotate or oscillate the reflected light beam. The reflected light beam is guided from the rotary element to the two-dimensional sensor.
