An electrical connector includes: an insulative housing defining an upper face and a lower face and having plural passageways running through the upper and lower faces; and plural contacts secured in the plural passageways of the insulative housing. Each of the plural contacts includes a base part, an upper arm extending from the base part, and a first part and a second part bent from opposite sides of the base part, a first limb bent from the first part and a second limb bent from the second part. The first limb and the second limb are located staggered in an upper and lower direction, and the base part, the first and second parts, and the first and second limbs together form a tubular structure.

An electrical contact for use with an electrical connector includes a conducting part and a supporting part wherein the conducting part has a better conduction characteristic than the supporting part while the supporting part has a better resiliency/strength characteristic than the conducting part. The conducting part includes a main body, an upper contacting arm extending upwardly from the main body and a lower contacting arm extending downwardly from the main body. The supporting part includes a secondary body, an upper supporting arm upwardly extending from the secondary body and a lower supporting arm downwardly extend from the secondary body. The main body and the secondary body are engaged together securely. The end of the upper contacting arm and that of the upper supporting arm are coupled together and the end of the lower contacting arm and that of the lower supporting arm are coupled together.

A method of making an electrical connector includes steps of providing an insulative housing with a plurality of passageways; providing a plurality of contacts associated with corresponding carriers unitarily formed thereon, respectively; providing an external fixture discrete from the carriers; retaining the carriers on the external fixture; downwardly moving the external fixture to insert the contacts into the corresponding passageways to reach their final positions in the vertical direction, simultaneously; and removing the carriers from the corresponding contacts, respectively.

An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector and a CPU. The electrical connector includes an insulative housing defining a receiving cavity, and a plurality of contacts retained to the housing with corresponding contacting sections exposed in the receiving cavity. A first securing piece is attached upon the CPU, and a second securing piece is attached upon the housing. When the CPU is received within the receiving cavity, the first securing piece is locked with the second securing piece so as to have the CPU retained to the connector in position wherein the corresponding contacts of the electrical connector are mechanically and electrically connected to the corresponding contacting pads of the CPU in a compression manner reliably.

An electrical connector for mating with the CPU unit, includes an insulative housing with a plurality of passageways extending therethrough in the vertical direction. A plurality of contacts are disposed within the corresponding passageways, respectively. Each contact includes opposite first retaining section and second retaining section with an upward resilient contacting section linked therebetween, and a soldering section extending downwardly from the first retaining section. The contacting section includes opposite first contacting part unitarily extending from the first retaining section, and second contacting part unitarily extending from the second retaining section. The CPU unit forms a plurality of metal-coated recesses in an underside to receive the contacting section of the corresponding contacts, respectively. The first retaining section is essentially immovable in the passageway while the second retaining section is essentially movable relative to the housing in response to mating with the CPU.

The contact includes a main body, a spring arm extending from an upper end of the main body with a contacting section at a free end region thereof, and a tab extending upwardly from the main body for assembling the contact into the corresponding passageway. An auxiliary part extends from a side edge of the main body at an angle with a solder pad at the bottom end for securing a solder ball thereto. The tab is dimensioned to allow a fixture to grasp thereon for applying a downward force thereto during downwardly inserting the contact into the passageway, and is optionally adapted to be removed when the contact is moved to almost the final position.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing with a plurality of passageways and a plurality of contacts received therein. The contact includes an upstanding section retained in the passageway with a spring arm extending from an upper region of the upstanding plate and above the mating surface, and a mounting leg extending from a lower region of the upstanding plate around the mounting surface. The spring arm forms a contacting section around a free end thereof. The contact further includes an extension extending from the upstanding section and optimally above the mating surface so as to be located between the spring arm and the mating surface in the vertical direction. The extension and the spring arm are partially overlapped in the vertical direction and results in the capacitance effect therebetween, thus lowering impedance.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing with a plurality of contacts retained therein in matrix wherein all the contacts are of the cantilevered spring arm type for connecting to the conductive pads of the CPU while categorized with at least two different types for performing different functions, i.e., signal transmission or power delivery. The different type may be related to the corresponding dimension/thickness, the configuration/position, the material, and the processing method which alters the mechanical or electrical characters of the contacts, etc. The different type contacts having the contact points initially at different heights while eventually at the same height, is another feature of the invention.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing having a plurality of passageways arranged in matrix, and a plurality of contacts assembled and retained in the corresponding passageways, respectively. Each contact has a main body, a secondary body sidewardly connected to and angled with the main body. A resilient contacting section upwardly extends from an upper portion of the main body and above the top surface of the housing for contacting an electronic package, and a soldering section extends from a lower portion of the secondary body around the bottom surface of the housing for mounting to a printed circuit board. The main body includes an upper linking part originally linked to an upper carrier, and the secondary body includes a lower linking part which is originally linked to a lower carrier. The main body includes retaining structures for retaining the contact within the passageways without moving.

A plurality of contact are received within the corresponding passageways of the insulative housing of an electrical connector, respectively. Each contact has juxtaposed first body and second body angled with each other via a connecting section linked therebetween. A resilient contacting section extends upwardly from the first body. A spring arm extends upward from the first body and includes a wide plate section adjacent to the first body and a narrow bulged contacting section at a top thereof. During operation, the plate section is parallel to a top face of the housing in a compressed manner.

The housing includes an insulative plastic body and a conductive plastic body wherein the insulative plastic body includes a main plate and a plurality of columns extending downwardly from the main plate. Each column forms an insulative retaining passageway for receiving the signal contact. The conductive plastic body includes a block with two opposite top and bottom surfaces, and plurality of conductive retaining passageways for receiving the grounding contacts, and a plurality of receiving cavities for receiving the columns are commonly formed in the conductive plastic body in a mixed manner.

A plurality of contact are received within the corresponding passageways of the insulative housing of an electrical connector, respectively. Each contact has juxtaposed first body and second body angled with each other via a connecting section linked therebetween. A resilient contacting section extends upwardly from the first body. The bottom portion of the second body forms sideward spaced first blade and second blade with a slit therebetween, wherein a soldering tail further extends from the first blade, and the second blade is sideward farther from the first body than the first blade is.
