A drill bit having a bit body intermediate a shank and a working face having at least one cutting insert. A bore is formed in the working face co-axial within an axis of rotation of the drill bit. A jack element is retained within the bore by a retaining element that intrudes a diameter of the bore.

An impact tool for use with a driving mechanism, the impact tool including an impact tip formed from a super hard material and having an apex and an attachment end, with the attachment end being bonded to a cemented metal carbide substrate at a non-planar interface. The cemented metal carbide substrate is bonded in turn to the front end of a cemented metal carbide bolster. The carbide bolster is securable against an outer surface of a driving mechanism through a press fit.

Impact tool

In one aspect of the present invention, a degradation assembly has a holder comprising a first end and a second end and a shank with a longitudinal central bore having an opening at an end proximate the second end. The shank portion of the holder has an inside diameter of the bore and an outside diameter wherein either the inner diameter or the outer diameter comprise at least one recess disposed therein which comprises a depth of less than the distance between the inner diameter and the outer diameters.

A drill bit has an axis of rotation and a working face with a plurality of blades extending outwardly from a bit body. The blades form, in part, an inverted conical region, and a plurality of cutters with a cutting surface is arrayed along the blades. A jack element is coaxial with the axis of rotation and extends within the inverted conical region within a range defined by the cutting surface of at least one cutter.

A rigid composite structure has a bore formed in a metallic material and a super hard interior segment or segments disposed within the bore. Each segment may be lined adjacent to one another and held under compression within the bore. The segments may be made of super hard materials such as natural diamond, synthetic diamond, polycrystalline diamond, single crystalline diamond, cubic boron nitrate or other superhard composite materials which exhibit low thermal expansion rates and are generally chemically inert. The resultant rigid composite structure may possess higher tolerances to high pressures and high temperatures.

In one aspect of the invention, a holder assembly comprises a connection block having a block bore extending from a first opening proximate a first end of the assembly to a second opening proximate a second end of the assembly. The block is adapted for connection to a driving mechanism. An extension element is disposed in the block bore and protrudes from the first opening of the block bore. The extension element comprises a central extension bore having a longitudinal length. An attachment mechanism is disposed within the central extension bore of the extension element and is disposed proximate the second end of the assembly.

Holder assembly

A retention assembly, comprises a carbide bolster comprising a cavity formed in its base end. A shaft comprises an inserted end disposed within the cavity. The shaft is disposed within a hollow shank which comprises a first end contacting the bolster and a loaded end in mechanical communication with the shaft. The inserted end is interlocked to an inner surface of the cavity through a casting.

Retention system

A retention assembly has a carbide bolster with a first and second segment brazed together, each segment forming at least part of a cavity formed of the bolster. A shaft has an inserted end is interlocked within the cavity.

A rigid composite structure includes a tubular body made from a metallic material and having a first bore formed therein along a longitudinal axis, and one or more segments formed from a super hard material disposed within the first bore. Each segment has a hole formed in the center thereof, and the segments may be positioned end-to-end and adjacent to one another to align the center holes about the longitudinal axis and form a second bore. The segments can be held under compression within the first bore of the tubular body. The segments may be made of super hard materials such as natural diamond, synthetic diamond, polycrystalline diamond, single crystalline 10 diamond, cubic boron nitrate or other superhard composite materials which exhibit low thermal expansion rates and are generally chemically inert. The resultant rigid composite structure may possess higher tolerances to high pressures and high temperatures within the second bore.

In one aspect of the invention, a pick comprises a carbide bolster disposed intermediate an impact tip and a shank assembly. The impact tip comprises a superhard material bonded to a carbide substrate, and the tip is bonded to the bolster opposing a base of the bolster. The shank assembly comprises a central axis, a first end that protrudes into a cavity formed in the base of the bolster, and also an inducible attachment mechanism disposed proximate the first end. The inducible attachment mechanism is adapted to attach the shank assembly to the carbide bolster and restrict movement of the shank assembly with respect to the carbide bolster. The attachment mechanism may restrict movement of the shank assembly in a direction parallel to the central axis.

A method of assembling a drill bit with a jack element that includes obtaining a bit body intermediate a shank and a working face, with the working face including a plurality of blades having of at least one cutting element and a receptacle formed proximate a center of the working face. The method further includes attaching a pocket having a central hollow within the receptacle, and securing the jack element within the central hollow with a press fit such that the centerline of the jack element is substantially coaxial with the axis of rotation of the drill bit.

A retention assembly, comprises a carbide bolster comprising a cavity formed in its base end. A shaft comprises an inserted end disposed within the cavity. The shaft is disposed within a hollow shank which comprises a first end contacting the bolster and a loaded end in mechanical communication with the shaft. Wherein, the inserted end is brazed to an inner surface of the cavity.

In one aspect of the present invention, a system for performing work has a hydraulic circuit adapted to store energy within a hose. The hose has an elastic inner layer pre-tensioned by a radial tensioning component disposed within the hose and at least one reinforcing layer of elastic thread disposed around and compressing the inner layer. A hydraulic fluid is in the circuit and in communication with the hose, the radial tensioning component and with a hydraulic actuator for doing the work. The circuit has a mechanism for pressurizing the hydraulic circuit in order to perform the work.

In one aspect of the invention, a rotary shaft impactor has a rotor assembly connected to a rotary driving mechanism. The rotor assembly has a plurality of autogenous bed pockets, the pockets having a wall intermediate a distal and a proximal end. A least one of the pockets comprises a plurality of inserts arranged adjacent one another in a row and attached to at least the proximal or distal end wherein a first end of at least one insert is complementary to a second end of an adjacent insert.
