A multilayer laminate having improved peel strength and containing a first and third layer comprising various plastic, metal, or glass materials, and a second layer containing an addition-curable silicone composition curable to form an adhesive having good physical properties and improved peel adhesion properties, the second layer comprising (A) a vinyl-containing polydiorganosiloxane composition, (B) a hydrogen-terminated polysiloxane, preferably in an amount sufficient to provide an adhesion-promoting molar ratio of silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms in (B) to olefinically unsaturated radicals in (A); (C) a catalytic amount of a platinum-containing hydrosilation catalyst; (D) an effective amount of an adhesion promoter selected from the group consisting of (i) bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]-fumarates; (ii) bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]maleates; (iii) allyl-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]maleates; (iv) allyl-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]fumarates; and (v) N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl) alkyl]maleimides, wherein R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are each alkyl radicals of 1 to about 8 carbon atoms; and (E) from about 0 to about 200 parts of an extending filler; and (F) from about 0 to about 50 parts of a reinforcing filler.

Laminates containing addition-curable silicone adhesive compositions

The deleterious generation of hydrogen in optical fiber cables with cured silicone resin coatings is reduced by treating such optical fibers with one or more type of olefinic hydrocarbon to convert --Si--H groups remaining after curing to --Si--R groups where R is an alkyl group having the same number of carbons as the one or more type of olefinic hydrocarbon. The resulting optical fiber cable, having a light transmissive core surrounded by one or more glass cladding layers, is coated by a cured, silicone polymer having few, if any, residual --Si--H groups.

A fast curing, addition-curable silicone composition curable to form an adhesive having good physical properties and improved lap shear adhesive properties, comprising (A) a vinyl-containing polydiorganosiloxane composition, (B) a hydrogen-terminated polysiloxane in an amount sufficient to provide an adhesion-promoting molar ratio of silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms in (B) to olefinically unsaturated radicals in (A); (C) a catalytic amount of a platinum-containing hydrosilation catalyst; (D) an effective amount of an adhesion promoter selected from the group consisting of (i) bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]fumarates; (ii) bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]maleates; (iii) allyl-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]maleates; (iv) allyl-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]fumarates; and (v) N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)alkyl]maleimides, wherein R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are each alkyl radicals of 1 to about 8 carbon atoms; and (E) from about 0 to about 200 parts of an extending filler; and (F) from about 0 to about 50 parts of a reinforcing filler; providing that (F) must be present if (A)(ii) is absent.

Addition-curable silicone adhesive compositions

A process for preparing silyl maleates, fumarates, succinates and phthalates comprising reacting an olefinic containing maleates, fumarates, succinates or phthalates with hydrogenotrichlorosilane in the presence of the platinum catalyst and then reacting the product thereof with methanol wherein the methanol is added slowly over a period of at least 6 hours to the intermediate product such that it is introduced beneath and into the liquid layer of intermediate product where most of the HCl that is formed by the reaction is removed by azeotroping it out with the methanol and water along with the HCl dissolved therein and removing the azeotrope as it being formed.

Alkoxy substituted 1,3-dicarbonyl silyl ethers have been found to produce moisture curable organopolysiloxane compositions having optimum cure characteristics when such silyl ethers are utilized with silanol containing organopolysiloxanes.
