A system can apply file placement rules to dynamically place files and directories within file system views backed by objects in an object storage system. After detection of an update to a first file system view that causes an update of an object in a storage grid, an object manager begins evaluation of file placement rules against metadata of the object. For each file placement rule that is triggered, the object manager determines identifies gateways that export the first file system view. The object manager then instructs the gateways to update their representations of the first file system view. The disclosed embodiments may be able to scale to managing hundreds of billions of files spanning thousands of file system views, especially in the presence of disconnected operation.

Dynamic update to views of a file system backed by object storage

Systems and methods that allow operators to configure how files and directories are placed within file system views into a storage system, and how these configured file placements are performed by the distributed system. Possible features include a mechanism by which the desired placement of files and directories can be specified, a mechanism by which the placement goals can be realized in a given topology of a distributed system, and a mechanism by which changes to the placement of objects can applied retroactively. The disclosed embodiments may be able to scale to managing hundreds of billions of files spanning thousands of file system views, especially in the presence of disconnected operation.

Systems and methods for managing files in a content storage system

System for decentralized storage and rapid retrieval of medical data among geographically separate locations, connected by data paths of limited bandwidth, which optimizes transmission therebetween. Medical data is separated into bulk content and metadata. Metadata is transmitted to all locations. Bulk content is copied to selected locations based on desired duplication, available storage, distance, transmission cost, data path bandwidth or utilization, likelihood of retrieval calculated from the metadata, requests to use or prior usage of content or information from a system that manages the content. Transmission rate is limited and bulk content is queued for transmission based on priority calculated from metadata, from requests to use content or information from a system that manages the content. Optimal locations for bulk content are recalculated based on requests to use content, new patient appointments, data path or equipment failures. Copies are made or deleted. Distributed lists of locations for content are updated.

Method and apparatus for transmission and storage of digital medical data

This disclosure describes identification of fixed content objects in a distributed fixed content storage system. Unique object identifiers are assigned in a distributed object storage system which consists of a plurality of storage media interconnected over networks subject to disruptions. The object identifier assignment prevents object identifier collisions in a distributed non-connected system regardless of the numbers of objects being stored and ensures continued operation of the object storage system in the presence of network disruptions without requiring unique identifiers for entities performing allocations. Embodiments may be used within any system where there is a need for globally unique identifiers, and the allocation of the globally unique identifiers needs to occur in the absence of network connectivity. The globally unique identifiers may be transformed for security purposes.
