Methods, systems, and computer storage media for processing search queries using item-based search refinement are provided. In response to a search query, search result items are displayed on a search interface. The search result items each have an associated item-specific control having embedded selectable hierarchical category classifications. Upon selecting an item-specific control, the item-specific control is displayed. A selection of an embedded hierarchical category classification is received to cause execution of an embedded-item search operation. An embedded-item search operation is executed to identify a subset of the items using the selected hierarchical category classification. The associated item-specific control further has embedded selectable attributes. A selection of an embedded attribute is further received to cause execution of the embedded-item search operation. The embedded-item search operation is executed to identify a subset of the items using the selected hierarchical category classification and the selected attribute.

Item-specific search controls in a search system

An application is installed on a device that includes a user interface comprising multiple elements organized in a hierarchy. The application communicates with an inspector tool that accesses the hierarchy. The inspector tool may be integrated into the application or separate from the application. During execution of the application, the inspector identifies an element in the hierarchy and presents information regarding the element. For example, a display region corresponding to the element may be highlighted or text regarding the element may be displayed. The hierarchy may be navigated by selection of items in the user interface itself, by selection of an item in the displayed information, by directional inputs, or any suitable combination thereof. Information displayed in the inspector may be configured by the application based on the identified element.

The methods and systems are for filtering the search results to generate refined search results including a second plurality of data items that are filtered based on the first refinement and the first value. The system receives a first request from the mobile device that includes an indication of at least one swiping motion that is applied across a touch-sensitive screen on the mobile device. The mobile device is associated with a previously selected refinement and corresponding value. The system filters the search results. The refined search results include a second plurality of data items based on the previously selected refinement and the corresponding value. The system generates a second user interface that includes the refined search results. The system communicates the second user interface, over the network, to the mobile device. The second user interface includes the refined search results that include the second plurality of data items to display on the mobile device.

A system comprising a computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program, and a computer-implemented method for generating background for an image. A graphical interface module arranges an image in a display element. The arrangement of the image in the display element defines a space between the perimeters of image and the display element. A color detection module determines an estimate of a color of the image about the perimeter of the image. A background generator module determines a variation of color of the image about the perimeter of the image. The background generator module determines a background based at least on the estimate of the color and the variation of color. A display module provides the arrangement of the image in the display element with the background at least filling a portion of the space defined between the perimeters.
