A gimbal joint may employ a plurality of wear sleeves, each disposed between a pin or pin receptive bore of a first structure and a corresponding bore or pin of a second structure and between another pin or bore of the second structure and a corresponding bore or pin of a third structure. Each of these structures may be adapted to rotate in a single plane, with one structure adapted to also tilt about a first axis, and one other structure adapted to tilt about a second axis. Each integral flanged wear sleeve may comprise a right circular hollow cylindrical body portion, which may be interiorly sized to be retained on one of the pins and externally sized to be retained in one of the pin receptive bores, and a flange portion may radiate from one end of the cylindrical body portion.

Bearingless gimbaled rotor hubs and swashplates

Embodiments are directed to solid lubricant assemblies for providing over temperature protection for bearings and gears in rotorcraft systems. A solid lubricant enters a fluid state above a certain temperature and is positioned so that fluid lubricant is applied to the bearings or gears.

Lubrication system

A balance weight assembly for a rotor blade of a rotorcraft. The balance weight assembly includes a balance weight pocket formed by a balance weight tray and a cover. The balance weight tray has an upper surface including a lip region extending outwardly from a projected region with an outboard boss. A balance weight receiving cavity is recessed from the upper surface and contains a plurality of balance weights. The projected region is disposed within an opening in a hollow blade spar such that the outboard boss of the balance weight tray has a contact relationship with an outboard surface of the opening. The cover is coupled to the balance weight tray such that the lip region of the balance weight tray and at least a portion of the cover have a clamping relationship with the blade spar, thereby coupling the balance weight pocket to the blade spar.

Balance weight assemblies for rotor blades

The present invention includes a torsion spring including a middle plate having a first attachment point displaced from the geometric center of the middle plate; a first elastomeric element secured to a first side of the middle plate and having an opening coincident with the first attachment point of the middle plate; a second elastomeric element secured to a second side of the middle plate and having an opening coincident with the first attachment point of the middle plate; a first outer plate secured to the first elastomeric element and having an opening coincident with the first attachment point of the middle plate; and a second outer plate secured to the second elastomeric element, having an opening coincident with the attachment point of the middle plate.

The present invention includes methods of preparing a composite structure comprising: placing a first ply of a fibrous material with a curable material on a layup tool; adding one or more additional plies on the first ply, wherein each of the one or more additional plies has a perimeter that is different in size around the perimeter than a previous ply to form a taper; and curing the composite structure, wherein the curable material is selected to minimize, limit, control, or eliminate the outflow of the curable material along the perimeter of the composite structure during the curing step.

Drive link

A light weight hybrid torque transfer joint trunnion has an integral metal hub spline fitting oriented on a center axis. This integral metal hub spline fitting may be made of steel, aluminum, titanium, or the like and may be generally cylindrical. The integral metal hub spline fitting defines an integral central internally-splined mast or driveshaft coupling opening centered about the center axis. A composite material body centrally retains, and is cured to, the metal hub spline fitting. Torque transfer joint link attachment pins extend from the composite material body and are rigidly linked to the metal hub spline fitting. In an example constant-velocity joint, a plurality of pivoting linkages may each be rotatably coupled to the torque transfer joint link attachment pins, and each of the plurality of pivoting linkages may, in turn be secured to a rotor yoke configured to mount a plurality of rotorcraft blades.

Hybrid light weight rotorcraft hub trunnions

A rotor system is provided in one example embodiment and may include a rotor system may be provided and may include a drive link associated with a rotor hub of the rotor system, the drive link comprising an inner member and an outer member; and a sensor system mounted to the drive link, the sensor system to accommodate motions of the drive link to track rotor hub flapping. The sensor system for the rotor system may further include a sensor, the sensor comprising a sensor arm, wherein the sensor is mounted proximate to the inner member of the drive link; and a sensor link, the sensor link comprising a first end portion moveably coupled to the sensor arm, a second end portion coupled to the outer member of the drive link, and an angled portion between the first end portion and the second end portion.

A rotor blade locking assembly for locking a rotor blade in a deployed position. The rotor blade locking assembly comprises a locking mechanism configured to be coupled to a blade grip. The locking mechanism comprises a latch and an actuator configured to cause the latch to move between an unlocked position and a locked position. The assembly comprises a locking plate configured to be coupled to the rotor blade. The locking plate comprises a bearing surface configured to bear against a contact surface of the latch, when the latch is in the locked position.

A folding rotor blade assembly for a tiltrotor aircraft comprising a rotor blade pivotally connected to a grip with dual concentric blade bolts having a common central axis providing a pivotal axis inboard of an outboard bearing. A folding spindle connects the outboard bearing to an outboard tip of a yoke. The outboard bearing and the spindle fold with the rotor blade relative to the yoke. In use, the compact folded arrangement of the rotor blades reduces folded aircraft dimensions in response to ever increasing restricted storage space parameters.

In one aspect, a spinner fairing includes a base configured to be fixed relative to a hub system; a movable spinner assembly movable relative to the base; the movable spinner assembly comprising a first movable member and a second movable member. Each first and second movable member being selectively configurable between a closed position and a contracted position, in which the movable spinner assembly has a decreased shape and/or volume. In another embodiment, a spinner fairing can include at least one static member and a moveable member. In still another embodiment, a rotor head fairing assembly includes an upper housing and a lower housing coupled to a hub system; the upper housing including an upper movable member; the lower housing comprising a lower movable member. In yet another embodiment, a rotor head fairing includes at least one moveable upper housing and lower housing.
