A method is used in determining suitability of storage. Storage data of a data storage system is analyzed. The storage data includes information associated with use of a storage object of the data storage system by an application of the data storage system. A storage suitability characteristic for the storage object is determined. The storage suitability characteristic for the storage object is provided to a user for provisioning storage for the application in the data storage system.

Determining suitability of storage

Described are techniques for determining utilization. A plurality of indicator values for a plurality of utilization indicators for each system included in a set of one or more systems are received. Each of the plurality of indicator values represents a score for a different one of the plurality of utilization indicators. A system utilization score for each of the one or more systems is determined in accordance with the plurality of indicator values for each system. An overall utilization score of the set of systems is determined in accordance with the system utilization score for each of the one or more systems.

Calculation of system utilization

Described are techniques for determining storage requirements for data protection. An initial size of a data protection area is determined. The data protection area provides storage for data obtained as a result of performing a data protection process for a first data area. The initial size is determined as a mathematical product of a first size of the first data area for which data protection is performed, a retention time, and a rate of change. Monitoring for an occurrence of one of a plurality of trigger events is performed. In response to an occurrence of one of the plurality of trigger events, it is determined whether an adjustment to a current size of the data protection area is needed.
