A suturing instrument includes a handle, an elongate shaft, and a suturing head. One or more pull wires extend from the handle into the elongate shaft for controllably deflecting a deflectable portion of the elongate shaft in one or more directions and/or planes for improved maneuverability within the body of a patient during an endoscopic or laparoscopic surgical procedure and for changing the positioning of the suturing head.

Flexible suturing instrument

A stylet includes an elongate body defining a passage and at least one aperture in fluid communication with the passage. The stylet also includes a first blocking dam secured to the elongate body proximal to the at least one aperture and a second blocking dam secured to the elongate body distal to the at least one aperture. The stylet is movable within a lumen of a catheter to a position in which the first and second blocking dams are, respectively, proximal and distal to at least one side opening of the catheter and each of the first and second blocking dams is sealingly engaged with an inner surface of the catheter such that fluid introduced into the lumen, from the passage and through the at least one aperture of the stylet, is directed through the at least one side opening of the catheter.

Flushing stylet

Systems and methods for use medical procedures including catheters and stylets are disclosed. The catheter includes a wall having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface defining a lumen, and the wall defining at least one side opening from the outer surface to the inner surface. The stylet includes an elongate body defining a passage and at least one aperture in fluid communication with the passage. The stylet also includes a first blocking dam secured to the elongate body proximal to the at least one aperture and a second blocking dam secured to the elongate body distal to the at least one aperture. The stylet is movable within the lumen to a position in which the first and second blocking dams are, respectively, proximal and distal to the at least one side opening of the catheter and each of the first and second blocking dams is sealingly engaged with the inner surface of the catheter such that fluid introduced into the lumen, from the passage and through the at least one aperture of the stylet, is directed through the at least one side opening of the catheter.

A medical device includes a first end portion, a second end portion, and medial portion disposed between the first end portion and the second end portion. The first end portion defines a first axis. The second end portion defines a second axis. The first axis is disposed at an angle with respect to the second axis.

Devices and methods for manipulating bodily tissues

A device for heating tissue, comprises a housing sized for insertion through a naturally occurring body orifice to a target location within a lumen and a heat generating element within the housing focusing thermal energy on a target area separated from an outside of the housing so that, when the housing is in the target location, the target area is within tissue surrounding the lumen at a predetermined depth from a lumenal wall in combination with a temperature sensing element sensing data corresponding to a temperature of tissue in the target area and a processor controlling the heat generating element in response to the data sensed by the sensing element.

Device for thermal treatment of tissue and for temperature measurement of tissue providing feedback

In one embodiment, a medical device includes an elongate member, a fixation device and a driving member. The elongate member defines a lumen and includes a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end of the elongate member has an opening. The fixation device is at least partially disposed within the elongate member and includes a tissue piercing portion at a distal end of the fixation device. The driving member is at least partially disposed within the elongate member and is configured to move the fixation device from a position within the lumen to a location outside of the lumen through the opening. The opening at the distal end of the elongate member is angled to insert the fixation device in a tissue of a patient at an angle to a plane of the tissue of the patient to fasten a bodily implant to the tissue.

A device for heating target tissue comprises a housing, an array of ultrasound transducers and a deflector member. The housing includes a tissue contacting surface. The array of ultrasound transducers is mounted within the housing on an array surface shaped so that ultrasound energy from the transducers converges on a target area a predetermined depth from the tissue contacting surface. The deflector member is located at a selected position within a field through which a portion of the ultrasound energy generated will pass on its way to the target area. The deflector member refracts a selected portion of the ultrasound energy to control a distance of separation between the array and a proximal edge of a region at which a level of ultrasound energy exceeds a predetermined threshold level.

A device for treating tissue comprises an enlongate probe and a light delivery unit illuminating a target area with light within a first wavelength band selected to enhance identification of target tissue in combination with an ultrasound crystal mounted at a distal end of the probe, the crystal being stimulated to treat target tissue identified using the light delivery unit.

The present invention generally relates to an articulating structure for use as at least part of a medical device. In one aspect, the invention features an articulating structure comprising an inner member, a sleeve, a pull wire, and an outer member. The inner member defines at least one channel on the outer surface of the inner member, the at least one channel extending along a length of the inner member. The inner member further defines at least one lumen extending through the inner member. The sleeve is disposed in the at least one channel. The pull wire extends within a lumen of the sleeve. The outer member is disposed over the inner member and defines a lumen through which the inner member extends.

An apparatus includes an implant and a suture coupled to the implant having a pre-formed loop. configured to receive a portion of a delivery device therethrough. A trocar is coupled to an end of the suture that can be releasably coupled to an end of the delivery device. The trocar can be inserted through a pelvic tissue and drawn through the loop forming a knot to secure the implant to the pelvic tissue.

A medical device and a method for manipulating bodily tissues are described. The medical device includes an elongated portion having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The elongated portion has a defined width referred to as first width. The medical device further includes a head portion extending from the distal end portion of the elongated portion. In one embodiment, an apparatus may include an endoscopic housing defining an opening disposed along a plane substantially normal to a longitudinal axis of the endoscopic housing. A rotatable member may be coupled to the endoscopic housing and may have a proximal portion configured to move from a stowed configuration to a deployed configuration when the proximal portion of the rotatable member is rotated about an axis substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the endoscopic housing. The proximal portion of the rotatable member may be disposed on a distal side of the plane when in the stowed configuration and disposed on a proximal side of the plane associated with the opening when in the deployed configuration.
