A method, system and program product for enabling migration of Virtual Machines with concurrent access to data across two geographically disperse sites to enable load balancing across the two geographically disperse sites, by presenting over a network a read writable logical volume at a first site, presenting over a network a read writable logical volume at a second geographically disparate site; wherein the first volume and the second volume are configured to contain the same information, and enabling read write access to the volume at the first site or the volume at the second site for a first virtual machine while keeping the data consistent between the two sites to enable transparent migration of the virtual machine to load balancing across the two sites according to at least one load balancing metric.

Non-disruptive load-balancing of virtual machines between data centers

A reclaim system frees previously allocated, but currently unused, storage space in a thin or virtual provisioning environment. The reclaim system may be used in connection with a maintenance operation performed upon determining that significant allocated space of a thin device is no longer being used or may be performed periodically to analyze a thin device and free appropriate space back to a thin device storage pool. In an embodiment, the reclaim system may run online while user applications are accessing a target storage volume.

Methods and systems are disclosed that relate to identifying an appropriate logical unit for a requested application storage allocation. An exemplary method includes receiving a request for storage allocation comprising a plurality of storage attributes including capacity and at least one performance and/or availability criterion. The method further includes identifying a logical unit having at least one designated storage characteristic that satisfies the at least one criterion and having an available storage space that satisfies the capacity and allocating at least a portion of the identified logical unit for storage associated with the request.
