A process of forming a high alloy layer on a surface of an aluminum alloy casting. The process comprises steps of providing a mixture of fine powders having an average powder size finer than 10 microns, preferably finer than 1.0 micron, of an alloying metal or an alloying alloy and an acrylic binder, shaping the mixture into a sheet, heat treating the sheet at 150.degree. to 380.degree. C. for more than 5 minutes, placing the heat treated sheet on a surface of a casting mould or a chilling block, and casting molten aluminum alloy.

Process for forming a high alloy layer on a casting

A metal powder sheet for use for forming a sintered layer on a metal substrate. The sheet includes powders of a metal which provides a required physical property such as wear-resistance and ultra-fine powders of a metal having a powder size finer than 1 micron. These powders are kneaded with an addition of an acryl resin as a binder. The ultra-fine powders make it possible to carry out the sintering process at a lower temperature.

Powder sheet for sintering

A powder alloy sheet including powders of wear-resistant eutectic alloy in a quantity of 85 to 97% in volume, and acrylic resin binder in a quantity of 15 to 3% in volume. There is also disclosed a method for forming a wear-resistant layer on a workpiece comprising steps of providing a powder alloy sheet comprised on 85 to 97 vol. % of powders of wear-resistant eutectic alloy and 15 to 3 vol. % of acrylic resin binder, bonding the sheet on a workpiece surface, heating the workpiece under a non-oxidizing atmosphere to a semi-liquid phase sintering temperature to sinter the alloy powder.

Powder alloy sheet for forming a wear resistant layer on a workpiece

A nitrided cast iron product comprising cast iron matrix material and graphite particles distributed in the matrix material, a nitrided layer formed in a surface of the cast iron product and having gaps between the graphite particles and the matrix material, the gaps being exposed to the surface of the product and filled with resin which has a resistance to dissolution under a temperature below 250.degree. C.

Nitrided cast iron product and method for manufacturing the same

A piston for internal combustion engines has piston ring grooves at least one of which is totally or partly defined by an embedded body of a Fe based sintered material containing Ni and Cu. The sintered material is of a density of 5.5 to 6.8 g/cm.sup.3.
