Device surfaces are rendered superhydrophobic and/or superoleophobic through microstructures and/or nanostructures that utilize the same base material(s) as the device itself without the need for coatings made from different materials or substances. A medical device includes a portion made from a base material having a surface adapted for contact with biological material, and wherein the surface is modified to become superhydrophobic, superoleophobic, or both, using only the base material, excluding non-material coatings. The surface may be modified using a subtractive process, an additive process, or a combination thereof. The product of the process may form part of an implantable device or a medical instrument, including a medical device or instrument associated with an intraocular procedure. The surface may be modified to include micrometer- or nanometer-sized pillars, posts, pits or cavitations; hierarchical structures having asperities; or posts/pillars with caps having dimensions greater than the diameters of the posts or pillars.

Method of aligning an imaging device with respect to an object, the imaging device comprising two or more optical channels, is disclosed. The method may include aiming the two or more optical channels at corresponding overlapping zones of the object such that the two or more optical channels are oriented at different angles relative to each other and off-axis relative to a central axis of the imaging device. The method may additionally include guiding or focusing the imaging device relative to the object using composite images created by combining separate images from the two or more optical channels.

Generating a correction algorithm includes obtaining a model of an eye, the model including a front portion with optics to mimic a cornea and a lens of a human eye, and a rear portion having a generally hemispherical-shaped body to mimic a retina of the human eye. The rear portion includes physical reference lines on an inside surface of the generally hemispherical-shaped body. Images of the model are captured using an image capturing device aimed at the model. Vertices of the physical reference lines are identified according to a given projection technique for displaying generally hemispherical-shaped body in a two-dimensional image in the captured images. Idealized placement of the vertices of the physical reference lines is obtained according to the given projection technique. The result is a correction algorithm used to adjust any pixel of an image of an actual eye in the x-axis and in the y-axis.

A device for illuminating a posterior segment of an eye may include multiple channels. Each of the channels may include multiple illumination paths such as a first region illumination path, and a second region illumination path. The first region illumination path and the second region illumination path may be illuminated at different times such that a first region and a second region may be imaged without interference from a non-illuminated illumination path.

A device may include a display screen and a generally triangular shaped body with first, second, and third sides, where the display screen may be generally parallel with the first side. The device may be configured such that either of the second side and third side may be oriented generally upwards during operation. The device may also include a sensor configured to detect whether the second or the third side is oriented generally upwards, and a computing device configured to orient an image to be displayed on the display screen based on whether the second or the third side is oriented generally upwards.

An optical imaging device includes a support structure and imaging channels, where each imaging channel includes a discrete optical imaging pathway. The imaging channels may be disposed within the support structure, and the imaging channels may be aimed at different angles relative to each other such that each optical imaging pathway is directed towards a pupil of the eye. Additionally, the optical imaging device may include a primary fixation target configured to emit optical signals along a primary fixation target projection path towards the pupil of the eye. Further, an artifact of the primary fixation target may be generated onto a portion of the eye to be imaged.

An imaging device may include first and second optical channels, where each of the first and second optical channels include a discrete optical imaging pathway. The first and second optical channels may be aimed at different angles relative to each other, and each may be directed towards corresponding partially overlapping zones of an object for imaging. Each of the optical channels may include an illuminating source configured to be turned on or off, where illumination from the illuminating sources follow respective illumination paths to the object. Each of the optical channels may additionally include lenses shared by both the respective optical imaging pathways and the respective illumination paths, and each may include an image sensor. The imaging device may also include a computing device configured to turn on the illuminating source of the first optical channel while capturing an image using the image sensor of the second optical channel.

An optical imaging device includes a plurality of imaging channels. Each imaging channel of the plurality of imaging channels may include a discrete optical imaging pathway, and the plurality of imaging channels may be disposed within a support structure. The plurality of imaging channels may be aimed at different angles relative to each other. The optical imaging device may also include a secondary fixation target within at least one imaging channel of the plurality of imaging channels such that at least one corresponding optical imaging pathway fits through a pupil diameter that is smaller than a minimum pupil diameter for multi-channel image acquisition with primary fixation.

An optical imaging device may include a support structure and imaging channels, where each imaging channel may include a discrete optical imaging pathway. The optical imaging device may also include image capturing devices respectively associated with one of the imaging channels to capture a first set of digital photograph images of respective portions of the eye. In some embodiments, the first set of digital photograph images may overlap each other and may be stitched together such that the first set of digital photograph images form a first composite image with a first set of scallops. Additionally, the optical imaging device may be rotated to capture a second set of digital photograph images that overlap each other and may be stitched together such that the second set of digital photograph images form a second composite image with a second set of scallops positioned differently than the first set of scallops.
