Systems and methods for detecting determining a volume of urine in an absorbent article such as a diaper. A diaper loading application obtains a first measurement of ambient light received from a photodetector while a light source is off and a second measurement from the photodetector while the light source is transmitting light on an absorbent article. The application determines a normalized measurement of light reflected from an absorbent article by removing an ambient light signal from the second measurement based on the first measurement. The application determines, from the normalized measurement, a presence of urine in the absorbent article. The application further determines an estimated volume of urine in the absorbent article, wherein the determining is based on an elapsed time since the presence of urine and an activity state of an infant wearing the absorbent article.

Determining diaper loading using color detection or activity state

A computing device that provides access to digital media items receives a command from an entity to share a digital media item that was uploaded by another entity. The computing device invokes an interface for trimming the digital media item in response to receiving the command. The computing device receives input for a trim operation to be performed on the digital media item. The computing device then provides a link or embed code for the digital media item for posting on a web site, wherein accessing the link or embed code causes the output of the trim operation to be presented to a user.

Techniques for detecting a color of a color changing indicator in the presence of ambient light. In an example, a system includes a light source, a photodetector, and a processor. The processor obtains a first measurement of ambient light received from the photodetector while the light source is off. The processor causes the light source to transmit light. The processor obtains a second measurement from the photodetector during the transmission, the second measurement including the ambient light and the pulsed light reflected from an object. The processor determines a color of the color changing indicator by removing an ambient light signal from the second measurement based on the first measurement and therefrom determines a volume of bodily exudate present.

An example of a digital artery blood pressure monitor may include a tactile sensor array disposed on an inner surface of a cuff, the tactile sensor array including a plurality of capacitive sensors to detect pressure changes within a digital artery of a finger due to blood flow, where the pressure changes cause changes to capacitance values of one or more capacitive sensors of the tactile sensor array, and control circuitry coupled to the tactile sensor array to receive the capacitance values from the tactile sensor array, and determine a blood pressure based on the capacitance values.

A system including two or more wearable devices includes at least one sensor in each device to detect signals related to the body of a wearer. User inputs, sensor outputs, or other information are used to determine an activity being performed or otherwise engaged in by the wearer and footsteps, heartbeats, discrete turns of the torso, or other events can be detected, from one or more of the sensor outputs, during a period of time that the user is engaged in the activity. A duration, amplitude, timing, mean value, or other characteristic of each such detected event can be determined, based on the sensor outputs, and used to generate a sample of clinically relevant information about the wearer. This information can then be used to determine the presence, stage, degree, progression, or other information about a disease state of the wearer or some other information about the wearer's body.

The methods and systems for estimating cardiac output and total peripheral resistance include observing arterial blood pressure waveforms to determine intra-beat and inter-beat variability in arterial blood pressure and estimating from the variability a time constant for a lumped parameter beat-to-beat averaged Windkessel model of the arterial tree. Uncalibrated cardiac output and uncalibrated total peripheral resistance may then be calculated from the time constant. Calibrated cardiac output and calibrated total peripheral resistance may be computed using calibration data, assuming an arterial compliance that is either constant or dependent on mean arterial blood pressure. The parameters of the arterial compliance may be estimated in a least-squares manner.

Systems and methods for model-based estimation of cardiac output and total peripheral resistance

Systems and methods for prediction and detection of circulatory shock using estimates or measurements of arterial blood pressure, heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, total peripheral resistance, cardiac ejection fraction, cardiac contractility and ventricular end-diastolic volume are provided. These estimates and measurements are used to determine a type of circulatory shock. In some embodiments, the type of circulatory shock is determined to be one of septic shock, hypovolemic shock, anaphylactic shock, hemorrhagic shock, and cardiogenic shock.

The methods and systems for estimating cardiac ejection fraction, cardiac contractility, and ventricular end-diastolic volume on a beat-by-beat basis include observing arterial blood pressure waveforms to determine ventricular compliances for a pressure-volume loop in the ventricle. Uncalibrated or calibrated cardiac ejection fraction may be calculated from estimates of stroke volume and the ventricular compliances. Cardiac contractility may be calculated from estimates of a ventricular compliance. Uncalibrated or calibrated ventricular end-diastolic volume may also be calculated from estimates of stroke volume and the ventricular compliances. A set of calibration parameters for calibrating cardiac ejection fraction or ventricular end-diastolic volume may be estimated in a least-squares manner.

Systems and methods for model-based estimation of cardiac ejection fraction, cardiac contractility, and ventricular end-diastolic volume

The invention provides a low electric power-consuming heating or cooling system comprising a DC powered microprocessor-based control system and method and a DC powered electrically actuated zone valve. The control system operates on DC power allowing the heating or cooling system to operate independently of electrical utility grid power, without compromising heating system safety. Electric power consumption is minimized by using very energy efficient DC powered devices and circuit components, and a very energy efficient DC powered zone valve. The control system detects and displays errors in the system and transmits audio-visual alarms when errors are detected, and is also capable of communicating with external computers for data storage and error diagnosis. The zone valve actuator uses DC power and DC electrical and electronic components. The position of the valve is indicated by a sensing system, and valve position is known a priori without rotating the valve. A microprocessor connected to the sensing system controls power delivery to the zone valve actuator based on the output of the sensor system.
