A method for controlling the handover of a DECT portable part from a first DECT fixed part to a second DECT fixed part during provision of a data service, both fixed parts communicating with a GSM mobile switch center, the method comprising the first fixed part detecting that the handover has been requested, and in response modifying its control of the link between itself and the mobile switch center to inhibit acknowledgement to the mobile switch center of data not received by the portable part from the first fixed part.

A DECT fixed part for providing a communications link between a DECT portable part and a GSM mobile switch center, the fixed part comprising a compression negotiation means for: receiving from one of the portable part and the mobile switch center a first message specifying a form of compression for a data service; and using that first message, determining a second message to be sent to the other of the portable part and the mobile switch center to request it to adopt a corresponding form of compression for the data service; so as to allow the provision of a compressed data service between the portable part and the mobile switch center.

Data transmission method

The invention relates to a method and equipment with which it is possible to use data services of a cellular telecommunication system, especially the GSM system, from a terminal (26) belonging to a second cellular telecommunication system, especially the DECT system. According to the invention, it is added to the base station (20) of said second telecommunication system the means (22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 30, 32, 34) required for performing the rate adaptations and mappings with which the transferred data are converted from the format of said first telecommunication system to the format of said second telecommunications system and vice versa. All changes to the current systems as required by applying the invention are made in the base station (20) near its interface to the switching center (1), so there will be no changes as regards the user and the operation of the switching centre.
