A system is provided for identifying an operator and managing access rights in connection with a crane. The crane includes a control system and a controller positioned at a distance from it. The control system maintains a plurality of operator-specific parameters that define operator rights. An identifier reader is placed in connection with the controller for reading the operator's identifier by using a first connection. A second connection is set up between the identifier reader and the control system to send the operator's identifier, or information derived from it, to the control system. The control system compares the operations requested through the controller with the operator-specific parameters, which define operator rights, and allows the operation of the crane only within the scope of rights associated with the operator's identifier.

Managing access rights to a crane

There is provided a computer program product, a mobile device capable of wireless communications and method for a mobile device capable of wireless communications with a payload handling apparatus for handling payload in a payload handling area. A message from the payload handling apparatus is received and on the basis of the received message it is determined when the mobile device is within the payload handling area of the payload handling apparatus.

Wireless communications with a payload handling apparatus

The invention relates to a predictive maintenance of hoisting equipment (), particularly cranes. A maintenance center () automatically collects diagnostic data relating to least one component of the remote hoisting equipment and optionally sensor data relating the operational environment of the remote hoisting equipment (). The maintenance center () has an access to configuration data of the remote hoisting equipment and the reliability data on the at least one component of the remote hoisting equipment (). The maintenance center () is then able to generate a maintenance plan optimizing the cost of maintenance and reliability of the hoisting equipment over a life cycle of the hoisting equipment.

An apparatus is configured with a set of operating instructions and a sensor for monitoring an environment of the apparatus. The environment of the apparatus is monitored for compliance with the set of operating instructions.

A security device () is a compact and inexpensive device for monitoring the integrity of closed objects that indicates when the state of a monitored condition inside the closed object has changed. The device () is small-sized so that it can also be placed inside small closed objects, e.g. a briefcase, box, envelope or alike, and that it is inconspicuous to the observer if the closed object is opened. The device () is relocatable inside the closed object. The device () comprises a controller () and associated memory (), a time counter () in connection with the controller (), sensors () communicating with the controller () and arranged to sense changes in conditions inside the closed object and indicating means () communicating with the controller () and arranged to wirelessly indicate invasion against the integrity of the closed object. While the changes in conditions inside the closed object comply with certain predefined conditions the alarm indication can be blocked. The alarm indication of the security device () can also be activated and deactivated externally by means of a remote control or automatically.
