The present invention provides capsules having a shell of material that comprises an assembly of a protein, and the capsule is optionally provided with a network of material within the shell that is an assembly of the protein. The assembly of the protein is obtained or obtainable by the aggregation of the protein, optionally together with another protein. The assembly is a non-covalent assembly of a protein.

Protein capsules

The subject matter disclosed herein relates to methods of identifying pharmacophores and inhibitors against protein aggregation. The present disclosure also provides pharmacophores themselves and medical uses of agents in the treatment of diseases associated with protein aggregation.

Methods for determining the lateral diffusion of one or more components are provided.

Fluidic device

A method is provided for measuring the viscosity of a fluid sample. The method comprising the steps of: (ii) providing a flow of the fluid sample; (iii) providing a component flow, wherein the component flow is a flow of the fluid sample further comprising a tracer component; (iv) generating a laminar flow of the flow (ii) with the flow (iii) in a diffusion channel, such as a microfluidic diffusion channel (); (iv) measuring the lateral diffusion of the tracer component across the flows; and (v) determining the viscosity of the fluid from the measured diffusion profile, wherein the size of the tracer component is known or is determined.

Viscosity measurements based on tracer diffusion

A method for analyzing a component is provided. The method includes the steps of: (iii) providing the electrophoretic or thermophoretic movement of the component into a second fluid flow; (iv) diverting a part of a first fluid flow, a part of the second fluid flow, or parts of the first fluid flow and the second fluid flow, wherein the diverted part is a third fluid flow which includes, the component; (v) contacting the third fluid flow with a fourth fluid flow, such as to form a laminar flow; (vi) providing the diffusion of the component into the fourth fluid flows.

Fluidic analysis and separation

Flow apparatuses comprising a separation channel, a downstream flow separator, a detection zone, an observation zone, and a waste channel. The separation channel has first and second flows in contact and allows lateral movement of components between contacting first and second flows. The downstream flow separator is in communication with the separation channel and diverts a part of the first fluid flow, the second fluid flow, or both, from the separation channel. The detection zone comprises a detection channel downstream of and in communication with the flow separator and configured to receive a plurality of diverted flows from the flow separator and a label channel configured to label the diverted flows from the flow separator. The observation zone is configured to record an analytical signal indicative of the quantity and the electrical properties of the component. The waste channel is at the downstream end of the observation zone.

Fluidic separation and detection

A method for determining the diffusion of one or more components, the method includes the steps of (i) providing a component fluid flow having one or more components; (ii) providing a blank fluid flow; (iii) bringing the flow (i) into contact with the flow (ii) in a large cross section channel, thereby to generate two laminar flows; (iv) permitting the laminar flows generated in (iii) to flow from the large cross section channel into a small cross section channel; measuring the lateral diffusion of the one or more components from the component flow into the blank fluid flow in the small cross section channel. Also provided is a diffusion method having the steps of measuring the lateral diffusion of the one or more components from the component flow into the blank fluid flow at a plurality of diffusion times.

A method for analyzing a component using a fluidic device. The method includes the steps of providing a distribution of the component across contacting first and second fluid flows; diverting a part of the first fluid flow, a part of the second fluid flow, or parts of the first fluid flow and the second fluid flow, wherein the diverted part includes the component; and analyzing the component in the diverted part of the fluid flow. Optionally the component may be labelled prior to the analyzing step. A flow apparatus for use in the method is also provided.
