A clinical analyzer with a vision system proximate a sample tube rack, the rack having a number of different insert adapters, the adapters having markings to identify the insert, thereby identifying the type of tube. The adapters are of heights selected to position tubes of various heights at a common aspiration level. A 2-D imaging device is employed to read the markings and for analyzing various distinguishing characteristics of the sample tubes.

Identification system for a clinical sample container

A magnetic sample rack adapted to support liquid containers is urged along a surface by means of a magnetic conveyor system located beneath the surface. The magnetic conveyor system comprises a plurality of magnetic housings driven by a belt, the magnetic housings including a magnet slideably contained in a closed upper cavity. Magnetic forces emanating from the magnet overcome frictional resistive forces between the sample racks and the operating surface and move the sample racks along input and output lanes defined in the operating surface. Abrupt movements of the sample racks are eliminated because the housing magnet slides smoothly towards the sample rack, secures the sample rack, and pulls the rack along the operating surface as the housings are moved at a steady rate by the belt.

Bi-directional magnetic sample rack conveying system

A small sample cup rack adapter having a spring biased plunger moveably disposed within a generally cylindrical outer body, with the plunger adapted to support a small sample cup within the outer body. After initial contact between an aspiration probe and the bottom of the small sample cup, the probe may be lowered an additional distance, minimizing the 'dead volume' of sample.

Micro-sample cup rack adapter

A tire changer having a vertical wheel hold down shaft rotatably mounted in a base cabinet and extending upward to a wheel mounting end portion above the cabinet. A collar attached to the hold down shaft beneath its mounting end portion and having a frusto-conical section extending upward to a backing flange centered about the hold down shaft. A locking pin which fits into a wheel lug hole extends upward from the flange. An upwardly extending biased centering cone slidably fitted around the hold down shaft. A bead breaker arm pivotally attached to an outside wall of the cabinet to pivot in a horizontal plane. A pneumatic cylinder is provided which is linked to both the hold down shaft and the bead breaker arm to actuate both, thus providing one pneumatic means for two different functions.

Tire changing apparatus

Safety apparatus for a tire changer having a support table for tire/rim assemblies and a tire inflation system includes a post having a quick disconnect mechanism for engagement with and release from the support table. The post has high pitch threads which receive a restraining cone with mating threads. The post is engaged with the table through a central rim opening and the restraining cone is moved on the threads to engage the edges of the rim opening. The post-table engagement actuates an air interlock which enables the tire inflation system. The cone is trapped on the post by structure on either end of the post.

Tire changer safety post

A lower bead breaker quick release for a tire changing machine includes a manually overpowered spring lock mechanism that keeps the lower bead breaker in position during lower and upper bead breaking operations. Manual compression of the spring lock allows the lower bead breaker pivot shaft to be positioned axially to allow complete removal of the lower bead breaker from the tire changing machine. A manually actuated, friction locked lower bead breaker attitude adjustment is also provided.

Lower bead breaker removal and adjustment apparatus

An accessory tool for use on a tire changing machine when operating on custom alloy wheels is disclosed which clamps onto the tongue portion of the usual tire changer rotatably driven center post which is normally used to rotationally drive a slotted tire tool. The accessory tool has the capability of positioning a tire mount/demount head radially and axially relative to the wheel rim and of securely clamping the mount/demount head in such selected position. Moreover, the clamping action for positioning the mount/demount head automatically lifts the head away from the rim surface to assure no contact between the head and the edge of the wheel rim when the accessory tool is rotated by rotation of the tire machine center post to mount or demount a tire bead over the edge of the rim.
