Current flowing through an inductor on a primary side of a voltage converter is sensed and compared to a threshold peak current value to determine when to end an ON portion of the voltage converter. The secondary side of the voltage converter supplies an indication of output voltage for use in determining the threshold peak current value. On start-up the primary side detects when the indication of output voltage is supplied by the secondary side across on isolation channel. Prior to detecting the indicating is being supplied, the primary side uses an increasing threshold peak current as the threshold peak current value. After detection that the indication of output voltage is being provided by the secondary side, the threshold peak current value is based on the indication of the output voltage.

Soft-start for isolated power converter

An apparatus for controlling a high-power drive device external to a package of a motor drive circuit includes a motor drive circuit. The motor drive circuit includes a driver to control the high-power drive device based on a first reference voltage, a second reference voltage, and a control signal based on a received control signal. A fault circuit generates a failure indicator based on a voltage across terminals of the high-power drive device. A fault condition is based on the failure indicator. A first terminal coupled to the driver charges a node of the high-power drive device over a first length of time in response to an absence of the fault condition and a first level of the control signal. A second terminal coupled to the driver discharges the node over a second length of time different from the first length of time.

Soft shutdown for isolated drivers

A technique includes driving a node of a stage of a ring counter to a predetermined signal state; and clocking the ring counter to cause the signal state to propagate to at least one additional stage of the ring counter to initialize the ring counter with a reset sequence.

Initializing a ring counter

A technique includes controlling a modulus of a programmable divider, including selectively activating and deactivating cells of the divider. The activation for at least one of the cells includes configuring an output signal of the cell to exhibit a predetermined signal state when the cell transitions from a deactivated state to an activated state.
