Described herein are devices, networks, systems, media, and methods used to collect WT information and to alter, based on or taking the collected information into consideration, one or more parameters used to control a mode of operation in which WTs decide to operate. In this way the relative portions of WTs operating in a first or second mode in one or more regions can be automatically adjusted by a network control node modifying mode of operation control parameters which are then communicated to the WTs in the region in which the modified WT mode control parameter is to be used. The wireless terminals than make a decision as to the mode of operation in which to operate using the modified mode control parameter and one or more signal measurements or other information available to the WT making the mode of operation decision.

Methods and apparatus for collecting and/or using wireless communication related information to facilitate WT mode of operation decisions

Methods and apparatus for efficiently establishing communications connections, e.g., for a secondary application, are described. A device to device communications network has established routing paths, e.g., corresponding to a first application. Different segments of the network use different gateways. Individual communications devices within a segment of the network may have incomplete information on the routing within the segment. A wireless communications device advertises the gateway device which it uses for the first application. A first communications device seeking to establish a communications connection with a second communications device for a second application uses obtained gateway information to make transmission and/or routing decisions, e.g., identifying a third communications device which can bridge a routing path gap between two segments of the network.

Network methods and apparatus

Methods and apparatus for efficiently communicating network connectivity information in a communications system are described. Two types of signals with different characteristics, e.g., long range synchronous beacons, e.g., LTE-D beacons, and short range asynchronous beacons, e.g., WiFi beacons, are used in combination to advertise network connectivity information and accelerate the acquisition of a routing path for a communications device to a device serving as a gateway for a infrastructure network. Reception of a first type signal triggers monitoring for a second type signal, and a received second type signal communicates information used to determine a communications path to a gateway device.

Communications related methods and apparatus

Embodiments disclosed herein provide a control device and a method executing thereon for allocating network bandwidth to users accessing a controlled network. In response to a user connecting to the control device using a user device, the control device obtains a user bandwidth allocation profile for that user based on user credentials. The user bandwidth allocation profile may be stored local or remote to the control device. A provisioning module running on the control device can map attributes in the user bandwidth allocation profile to a traffic control rule and associate the traffic control rule with the user based on the user credentials and considering information identifying the user device used by the user to connect to the control device. A traffic conditioning module running on the control device can regulate the network bandwidth usage by the user utilizing the traffic control rule associated with the user.

System and method for dynamic bandwidth provisioning

A method of presenting structured information, via software gadgets, based on monitored data in a utility monitoring system. First monitored data is exposed to a network to produce, via a first web service, first structured data. The first monitored data is indicative of utility characteristics measured by a first IED in the utility monitoring system. The first structured data is received over the network and second structured data is received from a network-accessible data storage service. The data storage service has a second web service that exposes second monitored data to produce the second structured data. The first structured data is manipulated, in at least one of the software gadgets, to produce structured information based on the first monitored data, and the structured information is communicated from the at least one software gadget to a web browser for display in a web page by the web browser.

A technical support process is provided for multiple electrical power monitoring systems, each of which has multiple types of devices coupled to a common server through a network. A technical support group is provided at one or more locations remote from the power monitoring systems and associated with the manufacturer of at least certain of the devices in the power monitoring systems. The owners of the power monitoring systems and the common servers are provided with access to the remote technical support group so that the owners can request technical support from that group to solve a reported problems with the power monitoring systems. When an owner of one of the power monitoring systems requests technical support from the remote group, that owner is provided with a portable storage medium. The common server for the power monitoring system for which technical support was requested is then virtualized, the resulting virtualized server is loaded onto the portable storage medium, and that storage medium is delivered to the remote technical support group. The remote group uses the virtualized server to analyze the owner's actual server and arrive at a solution to the reported problem.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a device for allocating bandwidth on a per user basis. The device can be a computing device that comprises a processor, a first network interface coupled to the processor, a second network interface coupled to the processor, and a storage medium accessible by the processor that contains a set of computer instructions. The computer instructions can be executable by the processor to retrieve a set of user profiles. Based on the user profile for each user, the computer instructions can be executable to establish at least one bandwidth limit for each user. For each user, the computer instructions can be further executable to regulate bandwidth usage associated with that user based on the at least one bandwidth limit established for that user. The computer instructions can also be executable to update the at least one bandwidth limit.
