Clear personal care compositions containing visible capsules

Disclosed is a non-flowable anhydrous topical antiperspirant composition comprising a first portion and a second portion contiguous with the first portion. The first portion is semi-opaque to opaque and comprises a first hydrophobic carrier vehicle and a first gellant and has a particulate antiperspirant active suspended therein. The second portion is translucent to transparent and comprises a second hydrophobic carrier vehicle and a second gellant. Preferably, the second hydrophobic carrier vehicle has an average refractive index that approximately matches the refractive index of the second gellant. Ideally, for greater translucency the second portion will be substantially free of antiperspirant salt and/or other opacifying materials. Preferably, the first hydrophobic carrier vehicle also has an average refractive index that approximately matches the refractive index of the first gellant. Even more preferably, the second hydrophobic carrier vehicle and second gellant are comprised of substantially the same materials in substantially the same proportions as the first hydrophobic carrier vehicle and first gellant.

Multi-portion antiperspirant composition

Disclosed are antiperspirant compositions, particularly clear gel antiperspirant compositions, that are water-in-silicone oil emulsions. The emulsion includes a water phase, typically comprising about 65% to about 95% by weight of the emulsion, and a silicone oil phase, typically comprising about 5% to about 35% by weight of the emulsion. The water phase includes an antiperspirant salt dissolved therein, typically in an amount of about 8% to about 30% by weight of the emulsion, the antiperspirant salt comprising a calcium enhanced aluminum-zirconium chlorohydrate. The silicone oil phase contains less than about 5% by weight of the emulsion of a non-volatile oil and includes about 2% to about 25% by weight of the emulsion of a volatile linear silicone.

Clear antiperspirant stick containing dibenzylidene alditol

Soap-based clear cosmetic sticks are disclosed which include an alkali metal salt of a chelating agent into the stick composition to increase the set temperature and the stick hardness and to prevent the formation of precipitates in the composition during aging. A typical composition of the present invention comprises about 40 to 90%, preferably about 50 to 80%, of a polyhydric alcohol, about 5 to 35%, preferably 15 to 30%, water, about 3 to 12%, preferably 4 to 8%, of an alkali metal salt of a C.sub.12-22, preferably C.sub.14-18, fatty acid, and about 0.3 to 1.6%, preferably about 0.5 to 1.3% of an alkali metal salt of a chelating agent, preferably a sodium or potassium salt of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA). The composition will also typically contain a cosmetic active ingredient such as a deodorant active. Preferably the composition will contain less than 0.3%, most preferably less than 0.2%, of C.sub.20-22 soap in order to achieve maximum clarity.

A clear gel cosmetic stick includes a liquid vehicle, a dibenzylidene alditol as a gelling agent, an antiperspirant salt dissolved in the liquid vehicle, and a hydroxyalkyl cellulose co-gellant. The cosmetic stick comprises in percent by weight about 70% to about 95%, preferably 75 to 92%, of a liquid vehicle comprising a polyhydric alcohol having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms and from 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups, about 0.5% to about 1.5%, preferably 0.7% to 1.3%, of a dibenzylidene alditol, about 3% to about 22%, preferably 6% to 15%, of an antiperspirant salt dissolved in said vehicle, and about 0.1% to about 0.5%, preferably 0.2% to 0.4%, of a hydroxyalkyl cellulose. Preferably the liquid vehicle is substantially free of monohydric alcohol and is also substantially free of strong alkali such as NaOH and KOH. Preferably the cosmetic stick will have a pH greater than 4.4, more preferably greater than 4.7, a turbidity of less than about 120 NTU, more preferably less than 100 NTU, and a hardness of about 60 to 150. By lowering the dibenzylidene alditol level to 1.5% or lower, the clarity and odor characteristics of the stick are greatly improved. The hardness of the stick is maintained by the addition of the hydroxyalkyl cellulose.

Soap-based clear cosmetic sticks are disclosed which include 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol in the composition to increase the set temperature, and also the stick hardness. A typical composition of the present invention comprises about 20 to 50%, preferably 28 to 46%, of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, about 3 to 12%, preferably 4 to 8%, of an alkali metal salt of a C.sub.12-22, preferably C.sub.14-18, fatty acid, about 10 to 42%, preferably 18 to 30%, of a polyhydric alcohol other than 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, and about 5 to 35%, preferably 15 to 30%, water. To achieve the highest set temperature the composition should also contain an alkali metal salt, preferably a sodium or potassium salt, particularly an alkali metal halide such as sodium chloride or an alkali metal chelate such as di-, tri- or tetra-sodium EDTA. The composition will also typically contain a cosmetic active ingredient such as a deodorant active. Preferably the composition will contain less than 0.3%, most preferably less than 0.2%, of C.sub.20-22 soap in order to achieve maximum clarity.

A clear gel cosmetic stick includes a liquid vehicle, a dibenzylidene alditol as a gelling agent, an antiperspirant salt dissolved in the liquid vehicle, and a chelating agent. The cosmetic stick comprises in percent by weight about 40% to about 95% of the liquid vehicle, from about 0.1% to about 5% of the dibenzylidene alditol, from about 0.5% to about 25% of the antiperspirant salt, and from about 0.05% to about 3% of the chelating agent. The cosmetic stick is preferably substantially free of alkaline gelling agent stabilizers such as NaOH and KOH.

A substantially clear, anhydrous suspension-type antiperspirant product includes an effective amount of an active antiperspirant component in particulate form suspended in an anhydrous vehicle such that there is no significant dissolution of the active antiperspirant ingredient in the vehicle, and the refractive indices of the active antiperspirant component and the vehicle are matched.
