A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has a positive electrode having a positive electrode collector, on which a positive electrode active material layer containing a positive electrode active material as a complex oxide of Li and transition metals are formed, and a negative electrode having a negative collector, on which a negative electrode active material layer is formed. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is a gel or solid non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a battery device in which a positive electrode and a negative electrode are laminated with an electrolyte layer therebetween in a film-state packaging member constructed by metal foil laminated films, and containing a lithium salt, a non-aqueous solvent, and a polymer material. The concentration in mass ratio of a free acid in the electrolyte layer is 60 ppm and less. Average particle diameter of the positive electrode active material lies in a range from 10 to 22 &#x3bc;m, the minimum particle diameter is 5 &#x3bc;m or larger, the maximum particle diameter is 50 &#x3bc;m or smaller, and specific surface of the positive electrode active material is 0.25 m/g or smaller. Lithium carbonate (LiCO) contained in the positive electrode active material is 0.15 percent by weight and less. Moisture contained in the positive electrode active material is 300 ppm and less.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A gel electrolyte battery in which adhesion between a layer of an active material of an electrode and a gel electrolyte is raised to provide for sufficient mobility of lithium ions, and a method for the preparation of the gel electrolyte battery. The gel electrolyte battery is comprised of a battery device accommodated in an exterior material of a laminated film and sealed in it on heat fusion. The method for the preparation of the gel electrolyte battery includes a battery device preparation step of layering a positive electrode and a negative electrode via a gel electrolyte to form the battery device, an accommodating step of accommodating the battery device from the battery device preparation step in the laminated film, and a heating step of heating the battery device, accommodated in the laminated film in the accommodating step, under a pressured state.

Gel electrolyte battery

To offer excellent hermeticity inside a battery having high productivity and being covered with package members by means of solving a problem such as sealing failures caused by gaps between sides of lead electrodes and the package members in sealing parts, in which the lead electrode to be disposed. During a step of sealing between ends of the package members and the lead electrodes by fusing the sealing members, or during a step of adhering the fused sealing members to the lead electrodes, stripping sheets made of a material such that the fused sealing members does not adhere to heaters, are inserted between the package members, or the sealing members and the heaters. Accordingly, even if the fused sealing members are forced out from ends of the package members, or leaked toward the outside, the sealing members does not adhere to surfaces of the heaters or crumble their shapes.

Nonaqueous-electrolyte secondary battery and method of manufacturing the same

To provide a method of manufacturing a battery capable of providing an equal amount of electrolyte in each battery and of enhancing productivity and coating machines employed thereof. The sensor detects a boundary from the collector exposed region C of the belt-shaped positive electrode to the positive electrode mixture layer exposed region B, on the basis of the detection timing, the shutter is withdrawn to open the flowing path and the proportioning pomp is driven. With the proportioning pump, the electrolyte is evenly applied to pressure in order to push the electrolyte from the nozzle, so that a given amount of the electrolyte can be delivered. Thereby, the electrolyte layers, which are thin and even in thickness in width and longitudinal directions can be formed and an amount of the electrolyte included in each of the batteries can be uniform.

Method of manufacturing a battery

To provide a method of manufacturing a battery capable of enhancing productivity and preventing deterioration of the battery performance. After attaching a positive electrode terminal to a belt-shaped electrode, electrolyte layers are formed. This can decrease the number of manufacturing processes after forming electrolyte layers, which effectively prevents that solvents in the electrolyte evaporates or the electrolyte layers are absorbed the water. Thereby, manufacturing yields of the battery can be enhanced, Additionally, a battery excellent in discharge capabilities and stable in voltage can be attained.

Method of manufacturing a battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an electrolyte layer

The present invention provides an electrode production method for producing an electrode including a rectangular electrode carrier and a gel electrolyte film formed on the electrode carrier and having a width greater than the electrode carrier. The method includes: an overlaying step for overlaying a first carrier having a greater width than the gel electrolyte film, a second carrier having a width approximately identical to that of the gel electrolyte film, and the electrode carrier in this order; a coating step for applying an electrolyte composition onto the first carrier, the second carrier, and the electrode carrier in such a manner that the applied electrolyte composition has a width greater than the width of the second carrier and smaller than the width of the first carrier; a first peel-off step for peeling off from the first carrier the second carrier and the electrode carrier; a gelatinization step for gelatinizing the electrolyte composition into a gel electrolyte film; and a second peel-off step for peeling off from the second carrier the gel electrolyte film and the electrode carrier. Thus, the gel electrolyte film can be formed on the electrode with a high accuracy.
