A method of manufacturing an ink jet head having a substrate that has a plurality of energy generating elements used for generating energy that in turn is used to discharge ink. The substrate has recessed portions separating the energy generating elements, and a wall member is provided having depending flow passage walls which are joined respectively to the recessed portions. The energy generating elements act on the ink and discharge it through the flow passages.

A common recess, grooves, and common recess and/or column members in the grooves are formed on a base board at the same time, and such board is made a second base board, which is coupled to a first base board on which elements for liquid discharging energy are formed; hence obtaining an ink jet recording head provided with a filter unit in an arbitrary position in the region formed by the ink paths and the common liquid chamber. The filter unit can be processed by a single processing in the ink paths and/or the common liquid chamber to make it possible to prevent disabled discharge from taking place due to dust particles intermingled at the time of head manufacture. A workpiece is efficiently processed by a single processing which is performed to process a three-dimensional configuration with respect to the direction in which the laser beam is irradiated.

The present invention provides a liquid discharging head comprising a substrate having a plurality of heat generating elements for generating a bubble in liquid and a grooved member having a plurality of grooves constituting a plurality of liquid passages and wherein the liquid passages for respective heat generating elements are formed by joining the grooved member to the substrate and further wherein the grooved member has an opening portion into which the substrate is inserted and the opening portion has the plurality of grooves which constitute the liquid passages for the respective heat generating elements when the substrate is inserted into the opening portion.

A method for correcting a recording head is provided to solve the problems of density unevenness in recorded images. The density comparison is made with the reference density for a predetermined unit in the density distribution of an image recorded by the application of n kinds of signals. Then, one of the n kinds of signals which is close to the reference density is selected. The properties of the signal thus selected are transmitted to the recording head together with the correction data, hence correcting density unevenness.

A method for manufacturing a liquid jet recording head comprises of the steps of calculating the difference between the distance B from the first heater on the element substrate to the cut face of the element substrate and the distance A from the first flow path groove on the ceiling plate to the abutment reference of the ceiling plate, measuring the amounts of deviation in the positional precisions in the state where the element substrates and the ceiling plates are actually positioned, working out a correction value from the distributional condition of such deviations, feeding back the correction value for determining the corrected amount of retraction. Then, after the abutment reference of the ceiling plate is allowed to abut upon the cut face of the element substrate by means of a push jig, retraction is performed by moving the ceiling plate by means of a retraction jig in the reverse direction with respect to the element substrate, hence positioning the ceiling plate and the element substrate. With the method thus arranged, it is made possible to perform positioning in a higher precision at lower costs with a shorter tact time, thus manufacturing a highly precise and highly reliable liquid jet recording head.

An apparatus and method for accurately and rapidly correcting a printing characteristic of a printhead, a printhead whose printing characteristic is corrected by the above apparatus, and a printing apparatus using the printhead. An ink container includes a casing, an air vent which is located in the casing, an ink supply opening for supplying ink out of the casing, and an ink absorbing material that is contained in the casing. The ink absorbing material retains ink therein, and has a generally rectangular parallelopipedal shape defined by sides of the ink absorbing material, and also has an ink supply portion for supplying ink to the ink supply opening. The ink absorbing material includes corner portions which are located between adjacent sides of the ink absorbing material. A preventing means prevents complete surface contact between the casing and said ink absorbing material by providing spaces between the casing and ink absorbing material which are in fluid communication with each other with a given space that is adjacent to a particular one of the corner portions that is most remote from the ink supply portion. The air vent is in fluid communication with the spaces.
