A network component for classifying at least one IP flow for efficient quality of service realization in a network, where in one embodiment the network component includes a unit for detecting at least one IP flow from at least one IP packet. Upon detection of the at least one IP flow, the unit obtains predefined information from the at least one IP packet to determine a quality of service requirement that is associated with the at least one IP packet. The unit creates at least one other IP flow by multiplexing a plurality of IP packets with the same quality of service requirement into the other IP flow or demultiplexing the plurality of IP packets with different quality of service requirements into other IP flows, each of the other IP flows having a different quality of service requirement.

Method and apparatus for classifing IP flows for efficient quality of service realization

An approach includes detecting failure of an error detection scheme relating to transmission of data units of a transport block. A negative acknowledgement message is generated in response to the detection of the failure. The negative acknowledgement message is forwarded to a radio link controller for discarding one or more of the data units.

The invention relates to the design of power sequences for use in a group of sub-areas of a wireless communication system. Each power sequence defines for one of the sub-areas transmission power values for transmissions using a respective one of a plurality of medium access units. For each of the sub-areas of the group, reception quality values are determined for transmissions between an access station serving the sub-area and mobile stations located at an edge of the sub-area. The reception quality values allow meeting system. The reception quality values are then converted for each of the sub-areas into transmission power values of a power sequence.

One or more fields of a physical downlink control channel is defined to signal the resource allocation for the logical control channel. One exemplary method involves steps of: determining a size of a transport block based on criteria including a size of at least one data block to be transmitted, wherein the transport block size is determined such that the transport block will include at least one segment of a data block of the at least one data block; segmenting the data block of the at least one data block into a plurality of segments including the at least one segment; and populating the transport block with at least the at least one segment.

A method for controlling access to an electronic message comprising: specifying an addressee for an electronic message; determining a message context for the electronic message by specifying one or more conditions selected from a group comprising a time condition, a location of the addressee condition and at least one other condition concerning the environment of the addressee, wherein the message context defines conditions that must be satisfied before the addressee of the message can access the message; detecting the context of the addressee and comparing the context of the addressee with the message context; and enabling access by the addressee to the electronic message when the detected context of the addressee corresponds to the message context.
