An aqueous ink that enables recording of an image with suppressed feathering and has high ejection stability can be provided. An aqueous ink for ink jet contains a pigment, a polyhydric alcohol derivative and a water-soluble organic solvent. The polyhydric alcohol derivative is a compound in which a proportion of {Y/(X+Y)}&#xd7;100 (%) where X mole(s) of ethylene oxide group(s) and Y mole(s) of propylene oxide group(s) are added to polyhydric alcohol having three or more hydroxy groups is 55% or more to 95% or less. The water-soluble organic solvent includes a first water-soluble organic solvent having a relative dielectric constant of 10.0 or more to 40.0 or less.

Aqueous ink, ink cartridge and ink jet recording method

Provided is an ink jet recording method capable of suppressing deterioration in an ejection property when voltage control of a recording head is performed. The ink jet recording method includes using an ink jet recording apparatus having a recording head equipped with a heater, a first protection layer and a second protection layer made of a metal material, and a unit of applying a voltage with the second protection layer as a cathode and an ink-mediated conduction site as an anode and ejecting the ink from the recording head to record an image on a recording medium, wherein the ink is an aqueous ink containing a component having an anionic group and a soluble metal ion having a standard electrode potential of more than 0 V.

Ink jet recording method and ink jet recording apparatus

To provide an ink jet recording method capable of, after repeated contact of a porous layer of a liquid absorption member with a first image, suppressing adhesion of a coloring material to the porous layer and a partial loss of a recorded image. Provided is an ink jet recording method for recording an image on a recording medium with a water-based ink containing first and second inks. The method includes applying a coloring material-containing first ink to a first recording medium to form a coloring material layer, applying a second ink not containing a coloring material but containing resin particles onto the coloring material layer to form a resin layer and thereby forming a first image comprised of the coloring material layer and the resin layer; and bringing a porous layer of a liquid absorption member into contact with the first image to absorb a liquid component therefrom.

Provided is an ink jet recording method for recording an image on a recording medium by making use of an aqueous reaction liquid containing a reactant and first and second inks which are aqueous inks containing a coloring material. This method has a step of applying the reaction liquid to a first recording medium, a step of applying the first and second inks, in order of mention, to the first recording medium to form a first image and a step of bringing a porous layer of a liquid absorption member into contact with the first image and thereby absorbing a liquid component therefrom. The second image has brightness higher than that of the first ink.

An ink jet recording device capable of maintaining an ejection stability for a long period of time. The ink jet recording device includes a recording head having an ejection port configured to eject an aqueous ink and an ejection-port surface in which the ejection port is opened and a liquid supply mechanism configured to supply an ejection-port clogging prevention liquid into the ejection port, the aqueous ink contains at least one component selected from the group consisting of pigment particles and resin particles, and the clogging prevention liquid has a dielectric constant of 20 to 40 at 25&#xb0; C.

An image-forming method includes a reaction solution-applying step of applying a reaction solution containing a thickening agent and a colorant-aggregating component aggregating a colorant in ink to an intermediate transfer medium, a first ink-applying step of applying a first ink to the intermediate transfer medium provided with the reaction solution, a second ink-applying step of applying a second ink to the intermediate transfer medium provided with the first ink, and a transfer step of transferring an intermediate image formed on the intermediate transfer medium provided with the second ink to a recording medium. An ink layer formed on the intermediate transfer medium by applying the first ink thereto has a yield value of 0.5 Pa or more.

Image-forming method

A drying apparatus includes: a rotatable belt which has an outer surface and an inner surface, the outer surface contacts a sheet; a blowing mechanism which blows hot air on the sheet at a side of the outer surface; and a heating unit which includes a heating element and a contact surface which is disposed in contact with the inner surface. A plurality of rollers are arranged in a direction in which the sheet travels. The rollers are pressed against the outer surface of the belt with the travelling sheet being held between the rollers and the outer surface of the belt.

During a cleaning operation, the following steps are executed. The steps includes a first step of pressurizing ink in a supply path to overflow the ink from a nozzle, a second step of stopping the pressurization, a third step of executing wiping while the pressurization is stopped and a negative pressure is not applied, and a fourth step of applying a negative pressure to the ink at the nozzle to generate a meniscus.

Inkjet recording apparatus

An ink jet printing apparatus according to the present invention includes a dryer configured to dry ink on a print medium. The dryer includes a heating unit configured to heat air in the dryer, and an outside air adjustment mechanism configured to adjust the amount of outside air introduced into the dryer. When the outside air adjustment mechanism is controlled so that the outside air introduction amount is increased, before the control of the outside air introduction amount, the heating unit is controlled so that heated air heated by the heating unit is preheated to a second target temperature higher than a predetermined first target temperature for a normal operation. Even if the outside air introduction amount is actually increased to temporarily reduce the temperature of heated air, the temperature of the heated air can be maintained at a value required for sufficient drying.

Ink jet printing apparatus and drying control method for the same

To provide an active energy ray curable aqueous ink composition exhibiting excellent curing performance by including a water-soluble polymerizable substance with high reactivity and a water-soluble polymerization initiator having high initiation efficiency; and an inkjet recording method, ink cartridge, recording unit, and inkjet recording apparatus all using the active energy ray curable aqueous ink composition. The active energy ray curable aqueous ink composition includes at least water; a polymerizable substance which undergoes radical polymerization by active energy rays; and a polymerization initiator which generates radicals by active energy rays, in which the polymerizable substance is a water-soluble compound having 2 to 6 (meth)acrylic groups; and the polymerization initiator is a water-soluble acylphosphine oxide compound.

Active energy ray curable aqueous ink composition, and inkjet recording method, ink cartridge, recording unit, and inkjet recording apparatus using the same

If an ink for a particular color (for example, red) having an excellent color developing characteristic is used in addition to inks for three primary colors of subtractive color mixture, the high color reproducibility is to be maintained for a long period. To accomplish this, at least one (for example, a yellow ink) of the inks of two colors between which the hue angle of red, included in the three primary colors, is sandwiched is applied to an area of a printing medium to which a red ink is applied so that the inks overlap each other. Thus, the yellow ink, having a high weatherability, is applied to an area on the printing medium to which only the red ink, having a low weatherability, is otherwise applied. It is therefore possible to improve the weatherability while maintaining the color developing characteristic at a high level.

Method of forming image, image forming apparatus, and program for carrying out the method

A water-based ink that comprises a water-soluble anionic colorant, an aluminum ion and an acid ion, wherein the content of the acid ion is more than that of the aluminum ion, and the content of the water-soluble anionic colorant is 20 to 1,000 times as much as that of the acid ion by molar ratio.
