In one embodiment, a method includes accessing a location history of a user of a social-networking system. The social-networking system includes a social graph that includes multiple nodes and edges connecting the nodes. At least node corresponds to the user. The method includes accessing a data set from a third-party source independent of the social-networking system. The data set references one or more locations. The method includes comparing the location history of the user with the locations referenced by the data set to determine an overlap between the location history and the data set and determining based on the comparison one or more labels to assign to the user or to one or more locations where the location history and the data set overlap.

Analyzing geo-spatial data in layers

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to determining the geographic location of network entities. An embodiment is a method of determining the geographic location of a host including, identifying at least one gateway communicatively coupled to the host, determining a geographic location of the at least one gateway based upon a proximity relationship between the gateway and a localizable entity, and determining the geographic location of the host based upon the determined geographic location of the at least one gateway. Another embodiment is a method for a host to determine its geographic location by determining reachability information to communicatively coupled network entities, sending the reachability information to a location server, and by receiving geographic location information from the location server.

Determining geographic location of network hosts

Systems and methods for identifying mobile access points are provided. In one aspect, a method includes receiving an indication of an accessible access point and an indication of geographic location. The method also includes determining that a stored geographic location associated with the accessible access point is inconsistent with the indication of the geographic location. The method also includes providing, to a server and to a local memory, an indication that the accessible access point is a candidate mobile access point based on the determination that the stored geographic location is inconsistent with the indication of the geographic location.

Method includes determining whether query includes indicia of only single access point or multiple access points. Method includes, if query includes indicia of multiple access points, determining whether distance between locations of two of multiple access points exceeds distance threshold, and if distance between locations exceeds distance threshold, facilitating providing low resolution version of location of device, or if the distance between locations does not exceed distance threshold, providing high resolution version of location of device determined based on the indicia of multiple access points.

Providing a geographic location of a device while maintaining geographic location anonymity of access points

The invention pertains to dynamic specification of location collection and computation logic. First, a request for location data from an end device is received. The location data is loaded from at least one electronic database. It is then determined whether an algorithm version number is indicated in the request and whether the algorithm version number indicated in the request equals a latest algorithm version number. The location data and an algorithm for location collection and computation is embedded in a stream, if it is determined that the algorithm version number is not indicated in the request or that the algorithm version number indicated in the request is not equal to the latest algorithm version number. Only the location data is embedded in the stream, if it is determined that the algorithm version number is indicated in the request and that the algorithm version number indicated in the request is equal to the latest algorithm version number. The stream is then streamed to the end device.

Method and apparatus for dynamically specifying location collection and computation logic

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for providing access for a networked device to a directory service for terrestrial broadcasts. A networked-based directory service that includes broadcasting data for one or more broadcasting stations within various geographical locations is provided. The broadcasting data includes tuning information that enables receivers to tune in one or more terrestrial broadcasts transmitted by the one or more broadcasting stations. A request is received from a networked device to obtain information about an availability of terrestrial broadcasts at a geographical location of the networked device. The directory service is queried using the geographical location as a query parameter. A response is transmitted to the networked device. The response includes tuning information that enables a receiver to automatically tune to one or more terrestrial broadcasts associated with the geographical location of the networked device.

Network based directory service for terrestrial broadcasts

A computer-implemented method of assisting in establishing a secure communication is disclosed. The method includes obtaining an encryption key that is shared with a credentialing device, receiving from a client device an encrypted session identifier that encodes a password, decrypting the session identifier with the key to extract the password, and authenticating a communication session for the device using a challenge-response protocol.
