A developing device effects desirable development when the amount of charging of toner, q (C/g), the amount of toner deposited on the surface of a developing roller per unit area, m (g/cm.sup.2), the speed of movement of the surface of the developing roller, v (cm/sec), the available length of the developing roller, l (cm), and the magnitude of electric resistance between the surface of the developing roller and a power source for developing bias, R (.OMEGA.), are adjusted so as to satisfy the formula, .vertline.q.vertline.m.ltoreq.100/vlR. The developing device produces a developed image desirable in quality and free from background fogging when the magnitude of a developing electric current, I (A), is adjusted so as to satisfy the formula, R.ltoreq.200/I. Further, when a charging device, an electrostatic latent image forming device, a transfer device, a cleaning device, a discharge device, a charging and cleaning device, an electrostatic latent image forming and cleaning device, a developing and cleaning device, or a discharging and cleaning device is provided with an elastic electroconductive roller composed of an elastic roller base and a flexible conductor layer, the device is allowed to decrease size and lower price, curb the decline of capacity due to protracted use, and preclude the occurrence of dispersion of characteristic, efficiency, or performance.

Apparatus for forming an electrophotographic latent image

A developing apparatus is disclosed that employs one-component non-magnetic toner. The apparatus includes a movable developing agent carrier that has a surface polished to a first finish, roughened to a second finish, and then metal plated. The agent carried carries a one-component developing agent composed of non-magnetic toner and supplies the developing agent to an electrostatic latent image. An elastic coating member is disposed to press on the surface of the movable developing agent carrier so that the free end thereof is directed opposite to the moving direction of the movable developing agent carrier, and a toner stirring member disposed in a toner container contiguously to or in sliding contact with the movable developing agent carrier. The apparatus provides a uniform toner layer over a long period of time and supplies stable and high quality images.

Developing apparatus using one-component non-magnetic toner

A developing method for converting an electrostatic latent image on the surface of an electrostatic latent image holder into a visible image by arranging the electrostatic latent image holder for holding the electrostatic latent image thereon and a toner conveyor for conveying non-magnetic one-component type toner thereon an extremely small space apart from each other; applying the non-magnetic one-component type toner onto the toner conveyor; and transferring the toner to the electrostatic image holder, satisfies the following requirements: the aforesaid developing agent is composed of non-magnetic type toner; the frictional charge quantity relative to the surface of the non-magnetic type toner is +30 100 .mu.C; and fluidity is 5 g or less in terms of the toner amounting to 20 g but remaining on a 100-mesh sieve after it has been vibrated at a rate of 3,000 V.P.M. and an amplitude of 1 mm for 30 seconds. The non-magnetic one-component type toner may positively charged non-magnetic one-component type toner at least containing resin and a coloring agent, the resin satisfying the following requirements: the glass transition point is over 50.degree. C.; the softening point is within the range of 110.degree. C.-160.degree. C.; and the frictional charge amount relative to the surface area is within the range of 25.about.150 .mu.C/m.sup.2. The non-magnetic one-component type toner may be prepared by treating the surface of toner containing binder resin whose glass transition point is over 50.degree. C., and whose softening point is within the range of 110.degree..about.160.degree. C., and a coloring agent with a silane coupling agent having an amino group. According to the above method, development fog and the scattering of the toner are prevented so that a visible image of good quality can be formed.

Developing method using one-component non-magnetic toner with positive

In an ink jet system, first and second main electrodes are arranged on an insulating substrate board so as to be extended to one side of the board and connected to first and second auxiliary electrodes through photoconductive sections, respectively. An ink reservoir is formed on the board and an optical system is located above the photoconductive sections. First and second control electrodes are arranged along the one side of the board in an ink jet port of the reservoir so as to face the main electrodes. A back electrode is arranged as to face the ink jet port. First and second control pulse signals synchronized with each other and having pulse and negative polarities are supplied to the first and second control electrodes, first and second high voltage pulse signals synchronized with each other and having pulse and negative polarities are also supplied to the first and second auxiliary electrodes and another high voltage signal having a twice cycle period as that of the control pulse signal is supplied to the back electrode. The potentials on the main electrodes are varied according to the resistance of the photoconductive sections and an ink is jetted from the port to the back electrode when a predetermined potential difference between the main electrode and the back electrode is produced.

Ink jet system

A developing apparatus comprises a developing roll for carrying a nonmagentic toner thereon, and an elastic blade pressed against the outer circumferential surface of the developing roll to apply the toner thereto. The toner is applied to the surface of the developing roll by the elastic blade to form a thin layer of the toner on the surface of the developing roll. The thin layer is opposed to a photosensitive body to deposit the toner on a latent image on the photosensitive body. The developing roll has a surface which is opposite to the photosensitive body and the whole of which is roughened.

Developing apparatus

A developing apparatus comprises a developing roll for carrying a nonmagnetic toner thereon, and an elastic blade pressed against the outer circumferential surface of the developing roll to apply the toner thereto. The toner is applied to the surface of the developing roll by the elastic blade to form a thin layer of the toner on the surface of the developing roll. The thin layer is opposed to a photosensitive body to deposit the toner on a latent image on the photosensitive body. The developing roll has a surface which is opposite to the photosensitive body and the whole of which is roughened.

In a developing device for supplying developer to latent images formed on an image support, a container in which the developer is contained has a sloping bottom. The container has an opening in its top so as to release the developer particles therethrough. The container houses a developer carrier, which is arranged above the sloping bottom of the container with one end located on the lower side of the sloping bottom of the container immersed in the developer particles, and with its other end located on the higher side of the sloping bottom thereof. The developer carrier has a plurality of linear electrodes arranged thereon, starting from one end to the other end, and has an electric field generator connected to these linear electrodes to successively apply voltages to these electrodes so as to generate an electric field which advances according to a lapse of time, whereby the developer particles are carried along the developer carrier, from one end to the other. That part of the developer particles which does not contribute to the developing of the image is also carried from near the opening to the other end, where it slides down by its own weight on the sloping bottom of the container to return to and near the one end again.

Developing device

An ion flow modulator with high reliability used in a photocopying machine to obtain a high quality image. The ion flow modulator includes an insulating substrate, a common electrode formed on one major surface of the insulating substrate, a plurality of ion flow control electrodes formed on the other major surface of the insulating substrate, a photoconductive layer formed on the insulating substrate and connected to one end of each of the ion flow control electrodes, a first voltage application electrode formed on the insulating substrate and connected to the photoconductive layer, a resistance layer formed on the insulating substrate and connected to the other end of each of the ion flow control electrodes so as to interpose the ion flow control electrodes between the photoconductive layer and the resistance layer, a second voltage application electrode formed on the insulating substrate and connected to the resistance layer, and a DC power source for applying voltages having opposing polarities to the first and second voltage application electrodes. The ion flow passage holes are formed through the insulating substrate and the common electrode. A means is provided for generating ions to pass through the ion flow passage holes.

Ion flow modulator

In a recording apparatus of the present invention, a visible image based on image information is formed on an ordinary sheet by a developer. The recording apparatus comprises a developing roller spaced at a predetermined distance from and facing the ordinary sheet and carrying the developer thereon, a recording electrode and a signal source connected thereto, for propelling the developer on the developing roller to the ordinary sheet by generating an electric field between the ordinary sheet and the developing roller according to the image information, a plurality of mutually insulated electrodes provided on the developing roller and extending therefrom in one direction, an A.C. and a D.C. source are connected to the electrodes, for generating an alternating electric field between adjacent ones of the electrodes to cause oscillations of the developer found between the adjacent electrodes along electric lines of force therebetween to thereby liberate the developer from the developing roller.

Recording apparatus using a toner-fog generated by electric fields

An apparatus for forming a cloud of magnetic toner particles has a rotatable magnet roller with a number of magnetic poles disposed within a non-magnetic cylindrical sleeve. Magnetic toner particles are supplied from a hopper onto the sleeve. A magnetic bar is disposed above the sleeve. The rotation of the magnet roller causes the sleeve to carry magnetic toner particles thereon. When the magnetic toner particles carried approach to the magnetic bar, those become in a cloudy state.

Apparatus for forming a cloud of toner particles

A magnetic brush apparatus is provided with a hopper for supplying powdered one-component magnetic developer to a cylindrical sleeve housing a rotating magnet roller with a number of magnetic poles. The powdered magnetic toner supplied onto the sleeve surface is formed into a magnetic brush on the sleeve surface under control of alternating magnetic field generated by the magnet roller. The magnet brush is carried around the sleeve surface with rotation of the magnet roller. Outside the sleeve surface a predetermined distance is positioned a magnetic member which may be attached to the tip end of a doctor blade. The magnetic member disturbs the alternating magnetic field on the sleeve surface, thereby restricting the height of the powdered developer passing between the end of the magnetic member and the sleeve surface.
