An apparatus for controlling a rotational phase is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an input member provided so as to be rotatable, an output member co-axially provided with the input member so as to be rotatable, a planetary gear mechanism co-axially provided with the input member and the output member for connecting the input member with the output member, the planetary gear mechanism including three elements, namely a sun gear, a planetary carrier supporting planetary gears and a ring gear, a drive apparatus connected with one of the three elements of the planetary gear mechanism for shifting a rotation phase, the drive means including two members which are rotatable with respect to each other. One of the input member and the output member is connected with the ring gear, and the other of the input member and the output member is connected with the planetary carrier. The two members of the drive apparatus is co-axially provided with the planetary gear mechanism. One of the two members is secured to the fixed side, and the other of the two members is connected with the sun gear.

Apparatus for controlling rotational phase

A composite hydrogen storage alloy material includes a hydrogen storage alloy material and a surface material bonded to the surface of the hydrogen storage alloy material. The surface material has a potential energy between those of hydride of the hydrogen storage alloy and hydrogen gas and permits migration of hydrogen between the inside and outside of the hydrogen storage alloy material.

A hydrogen gas supply system for a hydrogen engine has a hydrogen gas cartridge which is detachably attached to the engine. The cartridge has a casing in which hydrogen gas storage alloy and a heating medium passage for heating the hydrogen gas storage alloy are housed. The engine is provided with a hydrogen gas supply passage which leads hydrogen gas discharged from the hydrogen gas cartridge to the engine, a heating medium supply passage which supplies heating medium to the heating medium passage in the hydrogen gas cartridge and a heating medium return passage through which the heating medium flows out of the hydrogen gas cartridge is returned. The hydrogen gas cartridge is provided with a hydrogen gas takeout port, a heating medium inlet and a heating medium outlet. The hydrogen gas takeout port, the heating medium inlet and the heating medium outlet are respectively connected to and disconnected from the hydrogen gas supply passage, the heating medium supply passage and the heating medium return passage in response to attachment and detachment of the hydrogen gas cartridge.

Hydrogen gas supply systems for hydrogen engine and method of supplying

Particles such as magnetic iron oxide capable of being magnetized are crushed to obtain minute magnetic particles each size of which is not larger than 10 .mu.m. The minute magnetic particles are mixed as they are dispersed with such a binding material as cobalt or nickel. Thermal spraying particles each size of which is not smaller than 10 .mu.m are obtained from the mixture. Then, the thermal spraying particles are sprayed upon such a member as a turbine shaft to form a magnetic film on the member with plasma spraying method.

Method of manufacturing a sensor having a magnetic film

A magnetic film for recording a magnetic signal is formed on a surface of a base piece. The magnetic film contains Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4 of at least 30 wt %, preferably at least 75 wt %. For forming the magnetic film, a plasma spraying method is employed, in which an iron oxide (FeOx) is used for a thermal spraying powder, and a non-reducing gas is used as a working medium for the plasma spraying.

A ceramic sliding member is formed of sintered silicon nitride material which contains Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 as the major component and further contains Y, Mg and Ce, the Y content being 2 to 20% by weight in terms of Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, the Mg content being 0.1 to 0.9% by weight in terms of MgO, and the Ce content being 1 to 10% by weight in terms of CeO.sub.2.

Powder which has primary particle size of not larger than 10 .mu.m and is formed of mixture of Ni powder and Cr powder added with hard particles containing carbide is mixed with Cr.sub.3 C.sub.2 powder and granulated and sintered, whereby flame spraying powder having secondary particle size of 5 to 53 .mu.m is formed. The flame spraying powder thus formed is flame-sprayed under conditions which will cause fused Ni.Cr to cover Cr.sub.3 C.sub.2 particles which are not fused, thereby binding the Cr.sub.3 C.sub.2 particles and causes the thickness of one Ni.Cr layer to be smaller than 5 .mu.m. In this manner, flame spray coating the porosity of which is not larger than 2% and the hardness of which is not lower than 700 (Hv: 200 g) can be obtained.

A method for manufacturing an apex seal for a rotary piston engine comprising steps of preparing an apex seal blank made of ceramic material, and applying a high energy heating radiation to the sliding surface of the apex seal blank to form a roughened and porous structure on the surface portion of the apex seal blank. The high energy heating radiation is desirably applied to the apex seal blank under a non-oxidizing atmosphere so that an oxidization of the components of the ceramic material can be prevented.

A method for manufacturing an apex seal for rotary piston engines, comprising steps of providing a substrate made of an iron based material and having a portion wherein a sliding surface is provided, spraying the portion of the substrate with a molten-state Co-Mo-Si type intermetallic compound to form a coating of the compound, heating the coating of the compound by applying electron beams or laser beams to thereby make the intermetal compound dispersed in the substrate, heating the substrate to 580.degree. to 780.degree. C. to anneal it and machining the substrate into a configuration of the apex seal. The apex seal made in accordance with this method is also disclosed.

Apex seal for rotary piston engines

A process for manufacturing a member having a wear resistant sliding surface. The process includes the steps of providing a metallic substrate having a surface covered by a photo-resist coating, forming the photo-resist coating with a pattern of hard and soft portions, removing the photo-resist coating at the soft portions to expose surface portions of the metallic substrate beneath the soft portions of the photo-resist coating, etching the metallic substrate with the hard portion of the photo-resist coating retained thereon to form pits in the surface portions of the metallic substrate, spraying molten filler material on the surface of the metallic substrate with the hard portion of the photo-resist coating thereon, to fill the pits with the filler material of a porous structure having an oil-retaining capability, and removing the hard portion of the photo-resist coating from the metallic substrate.

Manufacture of a wear-resistant sliding surface

An apex seal for rotary piston engines comprising a material containing in weight 2.5 to 4.0% of C, 1.5 to 3.0% of Si, less than 1.0% of Mn, 0.25 to 2.0% of Ni, 0.25 to 2.0% of Mo, 0.25 to 2.0% of Cu, 0.05 to 0.3% of B, 0.2 to 1.5% of Cr, 0.05 to 1.0% of V and balance substantially of Fe. The sliding surface portion of the seal is of a chilled structure containing in area ratio more than 55% of carbides and the body portion is essentially of bainite structure containing in area ratio less than 15% of carbides.
