Salicylamide derivatives represented by formulae ( ) and ( ); intermediates in the production thereof; a process for producing the same; and drugs containing the same as the active ingredient. The salicylamide derivatives represented by formulae ( ) and ( ) are useful as anti-inflammatory agents and immunosuppressive agents which exert an effect of inhibiting the activation of NF-&kgr;B with little side effects.

As a new antibiotic is provided a compound, now nominated as MI43-37F11 substance, which has formula ##STR1## This MI43-37F11 substance has an antitumor activity, an activity to enhance the production of interleukin-1 in vivo in a mammalian, and an activity to activate a macrophage in vivo in a mammalian. MI43-37F11 substance may be produced by cultivation of Streptoverticillium eurocidicum MI43-37F11 strain identified as FERM BP-2783.

New anthracycline antibiotics of a formula (I) are provided, which are usable as an anticancer agent ##STR1## (where R represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group). The antibiotics (I) can be produced by incubation of a dye-nonproductive or hardly dye-productive mutant strain which has an ability of converting .alpha.-citromycinone or .beta.-isorhodomycinone into the antibiotics (I), in the presence of .alpha.-citromycinone or .beta.-isorhodomycinone in a pertinent nutrient medium.

Novel tylosin derivatives are represented by formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, an acetyl group or a propionyl group; X represents a group --CO-- or --SO.sub.2 --; Y represents a fluorine atom, an acetyl group, a methanesulfonyl group, a methylthio group, a benzoyl group or a methoxy group bound to the benzyl group at the 2-position or 4-position; and Z represents a hydrogen atom or a D-mycinose residue: ##STR2## The tylosin derivatives which are antibiotics of macrolide type provide improved antibacterial activity and improved ability of absorption and excretion in vivo.

An anthracycline, serirubicin, of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents the substituent: ##STR2## is produced by a process which comprises cultivating a strain of Streptomyces in a suitable culture medium under aerobic conditions, said strain having the ability to produce the anthracycline compound, serirubicin, and then recovering the anthracycline compound, serirubicin, from the cultured medium. This serirubicin, or an acid addition salt of the serirubicin, can be contained as the active ingredient in anti-tumor agents and in pharmaceutical compositions for treatment of infections induced by gram-positive microorganisms, whereby good results are attainable.

An anthracycline compound, ditrisarubicin, of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents one of the following substituents (A), (B), and (C): ##STR2## is produced by a process which comprises cultivating a strain of Streptomyces in a suitable culture medium under aerobic conditions, said strain having the ability to produce the anthracycline compound, ditrisarubicin, and then recovering the anthracycline compound, ditrisarubicin, from the cultured medium. This ditrisarubicin, or an acid addition salt of the ditrisarubicin, can be contained as the active ingredient in antitumor agents and in pharmaceutical compositions for treatment of infections induced by gram-positive microorganisms, whereby good results are attainable.

This invention relates to the novel compounds 3',5,7-trihydroxy-4',6-dimethoxy-isoflavone, 3',5,7-trihydroxy-4',8-dimethoxy-isoflavone and 3',7-dihydroxy-4',6,8-trimethoxy-isoflavone which are powerful inhibitors of catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT) and to their production by fermentation of Actinomyces roseolus.
