Composite sheet material

Disclosed is a process for preparing a water-proof sheet by forming a polymer coating on both the surfaces of a fibrous substrate fabric. At first, the fibrous substrate fabric is treated with a water repellant, and both the surfaces are subjected to the low temperature plasma treatment or corona discharge treatment. Then, a polymer coating is formed on both the surfaces. According to this process, the peel strength of the polymer coating is improved and the water absorbing property is reduced substantially to zero. If an inorganic fiber substrate fabric is treated according to this process, the bending resistance is highly improved in the resulting water-proof sheet.

Process for preparation of water-proof sheets

Textile fabrics are firmly lap welded to each other by superposing two end portions of one or two fabrics on each other while interposing a piece of a synthetic polymeric bonding tape between the superposed two end portions and by applying a high frequency wave treatment and/or heat treatment to the interposed portion of the bonding tape through at least one of the superposed end portions while pressing them, to melt the interposed portion of the bonding tape thereby lap welding the end portions of the fabric or fabrics to each other.

A water-proof fabric capable of providing a fuse-bonding activity by applying a high frequency wave treatment or heating treatment thereto, which is characterized in that at least one fuse-bonding region is formed on at least one surface of the water-proof fabric by coating the surface with a polymeric fuse-bonding agent capable of providing an adhering activity when a high frequency wave treatment or heating treatment is applied thereto.
