It is an object to provide an optical transparent member capable of maintaining a high-performance antireflection effect for a base over a long period of time, and an optical system using the same, specifically an optical transparent member including on a base a layer containing SiOas a main component, a layer containing AlOas a main component, and a plate crystal layer formed from plate crystals containing AlOas a main component, wherein the surface of the plate crystal layer has a shape of irregularities, and an optical system using the same.

A process for producing an optical element which has excellent heat resistance and adhesion to a substrate. This process comprises applying a liquid composition for forming an optical element to the molding surface of a substrate having a regular pattern surface consisting of areas having high wettability and areas having low wettability as the molding surface and curing the composition to form projections in the areas having high wettability. A solution containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a hydrolyzable compound which can be hydrolyzed and polycondensed and a hydrolyzed/polycondensed product thereof is used as the liquid composition for forming an optical element.

An article with a predetermined surface pattern that is coated with a film which makes possible the complete transfer of the pattern of a patterning die and thick-film patterning having a depth to the order of several tens of micrometers, prevents the occurrence of cracks, has high film hardness, and has a surface pattern which is the inverse of the surface pattern of the patterning die. This article is produced by joining a patterning die closely to a substrate with a sol-gel material containing the silane compound represented by the formula: RSiX(wherein Ris an alkyl group or hydrogen and X is an alkoxyl group or a halogen atom) and the silane compound represented by the formula: RSiY(wherein Ris an aryl group or a substituted aryl group and Y is an alkoxyl group or a halogen atom) disposed therebetween in the form of a film and heating them to coat the surface of the substrate with a gel film having a surface pattern which is the inverse of the surface pattern of the patterning die.

Objects of the present invention are to provide colored coating compositions which can form easily a colored glass gel coating film being excellent in water resistance, boiling water resistance, alkali resistance, weather resistance, etc. at low temperatures on the outer surface of glass products, metal products, etc. and to provide colored coating compositions with which colored bottles having no haze can be obtained even if the bottles are coated in a high-humidity environment. The colored coating compositions according to the present invention comprise a sol-gel liquid obtained by polycondensation of phenyltrialkoxysilane or an oligomer thereof, acryl polyol, polyester polyol, polyether polyol and/or lower alkyl polyol (or the acryl polyol, the polyester polyol and/or the polyether polyol and a polyisocyanate resin), and an organic coloring agent.

A substrate provided thereon, with a film having a large number of fine grooves of a desired pattern is herein disclosed, which comprises a body of substrate and a film of at least one polymerized-condensed or crosslinked organometal compound formed on the substrate and having a large number of fine grooves on the surface and which can be produced by applying a solution containing at least one organometal compound and optionally a thickening agent to the surface of a body of substrate to form a film thereon; then impressing the film with a mold having a large number of fine ridges thereon to form grooves corresponding to the ridges, on the film; or applying the solution to the mold to form such a film and transferring the film to the body of substrate; and then calcining the resulting film having fine grooves to solidify the same. According to the method, an excellent substrate having good durability and optical properties can be produced simply and in a good yield.
