To provide a photocatalyst having high selectivity and carrying out a reductive reaction with light having a longer wavelength. A photocatalyst has a structure in which a semiconductor and a substrate are joined, in which the substrate causes a catalytic reaction by transfer to the substrate of excited electrons, which are generated by applying light to the semiconductor.

Photocatalyst and reducing catalyst using the same

A novel electrocatalyst made of an oxidase having high electron transfer efficiency and an enzymatic electrode using the same are provided. The electrocatalyst is made of CueO. The enzymatic electrode comprises a carbonaceous porous body and an electrocatalyst made of CueO supported on the surface of the carbonaceous porous body. CueO is preferably CueO from. The carbonaceous porous body constituting the enzymatic electrode is preferably carbonaceous gel. Also, the enzymatic electrode may further comprise a mediator which facilitates transfer of electron between the carbonaceous porous body and said CueO.

A composition containing an extremely poorly water-soluble drug and obtained by treating, with a supercritical fluid or subcritical fluid of carbon dioxide, a mixture comprising a porous silica material and the extremely poorly water-soluble drug; and its production process. The porous silica material has an average pore diameter in a range of from 1 to 20 nm, pores having diameters within &#xb1;40% of the average pore size account for at least 60% of a total pore volume of the porous silica material, and in X-ray diffractometry, the porous silica material has at least one peak at a position of diffraction angle (2&#x3b8;) corresponding to a d value of at least 1 nm. The composition according to the present invention, which contains the extremely poorly water-soluble drug, is excellent in the dissolution of the extremely poorly water-soluble drug.

Composition containing medicine extremely slightly soluble in water being excellent in eluting property and method for preparation thereof

A highly thermostable polypeptide possessing protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) activity, a gene coding for the polypeptide and a process for producing the polyeptide are provided. The polypeptide possessing PDI activity is characterized by A) having a capability of catalyzing a disulfide exchange in proteins, B) recognizing mainly ribonuclease A as a substrate, C) having a suitable active temperature of 20.degree. to 70.degree. C., D) being stable at a pH value of 6 to 9, and E) having a molecular weight of about 60,000 to 62,000. Since it has a higher thermostability and exhibits a stable activity in a wider dithiothreitol concentration range as compared with the conventional PDI, it is possible to provide a novel enzyme active protein which can be advantageously used for a refolding reaction of certain proteins. Further, a process which enables the polylpeptide possessing PDI activity to be efficiently produced using Humicola insolens or a transformant transformed with an expression vector containing the above-described gene is also provided.
