A pump may have a first chamber and a solenoid coil to control movement of a first valve member. A second chamber may have a second valve member to control fluid moving into a third chamber. A first fluid passageway may link the first and second chambers, a second passageway may link second and third chambers and a third passageway may link third and fourth chambers. After pressurizing the third chamber causing fluid to flow into and leave a fourth chamber, the third chamber depressurizes due to downward movement of a plunger. Upon depressurization with a solenoid coil energized, second valve member floats and then moves against a valve seat. While the second valve member is moving toward the valve seat, the solenoid coil is de-energized causing the first valve member to move and strike the second valve member when the second valve member is moving at maximum velocity.

Direct injection pump control strategy for noise reduction

A pump includes a pump casing defining a first chamber and a second chamber, and fluid moves from the first chamber to the second chamber during a stroke. The pump also includes a needle that is movably disposed in the first chamber and a valve carriage that is movably disposed in the second chamber. The valve carriage includes an internal stop, and the valve carriage also includes a cavity therein that is partially defined by the internal stop. The pump further includes a valve that is movably disposed within the cavity of the valve carriage, and the valve is operable to be impacted by the needle during the stroke. Also, the needle is operable to impact the valve carriage during the stroke. Moreover, the valve is operable to impact the internal stop during the stroke at a time different from the needle impacting the valve carriage.

Pump pressure control valve with shock reduction features

In one embodiment, a small-diameter opening () is formed in the central portion of a valve element () included in a check valve () of a high pressure fuel pump (). A needle valve () is provided integrally with a valve element () of an electromagnetic spill valve (), and the opening () of the valve element () can be opened and closed with a tip portion of the needle valve (). When the high pressure fuel pump () switches from the drive state to the stopped state, the needle valve () retreats from the opening () of the valve element () in conjunction with the movement of the valve element () of the electromagnetic spill valve, thus forming a micro gap. When the high pressure fuel pump () is driven and the intake stroke is performed, the needle valve () obstructs the openingof the valve element () in conjunction with the movement of the valve element () of the electromagnetic spill valve, thus preventing the back-flow of fuel due to the existence of the micro gap.

Fuel pump

A fuel supply apparatus includes a movable unit, a coil, a drive circuit portion, and a drive control portion. The drive circuit portion energizes the coil with a drive electric current of a first value such that the movable unit is displaced from an opening-side position to a closing-side position. The drive circuit portion energizes the coil with the drive electric current of a second value that is smaller than the first value such that the movable unit is held at the closing-side position. The drive control portion controls the drive circuit portion to change the drive electric current from the first value to the second value while the movable unit is being displaced toward the closing-side position based on energization of the coil with the drive electric current of the first value.
