A mask having an inner surface facing a wearer and an outer surface located opposite to the inner surface has first to fourth filters. The first filter is disposed on the outer surface of the mask and has air permeability and a water absorption capacity of 100% or more and less than 1000%. The second filter is layered on the first filter on the side of the inner surface of the mask and has air permeability and a water absorption capacity of less than 30%. The third filter is layered on the second filter on the side of the inner surface of the mask and is formed of an electret filter having air permeability and a water absorption capacity of less than 50%. The virus inactivating fine particles are particles of at least one selected from the group consisting of platinum(II) iodide, palladium(II) iodide, silver(I) iodide, copper(I) iodide, and copper(I) thiocyanate.

A gas treatment device includes a plasma-generating unit and a catalyst medium. An antiviral agent that contains as an active ingredient a particle of at least one kind of iodide composed of iodine and an element shown in Period 4 to Period 6 and Group 8 to Group 15 of a periodic table or at least one kind of monovalent copper compound. The antiviral agent can be incorporated into a variety of products. The antiviral agent can inactivate a wide range of viruses. The antiviral agent can be designed at a higher degree of freedom in terms of its constituents as compared to conventional antiviral agents. In addition, the antiviral agent can readily exhibit and maintain its antiviral activity because it does not require any pretreatments or special washing processes.

Disclosed is an anti-viral member which can inactivate a virus. Specifically disclosed is an anti-viral member which is characterized by comprising a base material, univalent copper compound microparticles, and inorganic microparticles which are provided for the purpose of retaining the univalent copper compound microparticles on the base material and each of which has a silane monomer bound to the surface thereof via a chemical bond, wherein the inorganic microparticles are bound to one another via chemical bonds formed between the silane monomers provided on the surfaces thereof, and each of the inorganic microparticles is bound to the base material via a chemical bond between the silane monomer and the base material to form spaces in which the univalent copper compound microparticles are to be retained. The anti-viral member has an extremely high anti-viral activity compared to those achieved by the conventional binder immobilization techniques, and is applicable to various materials or various products to which the materials are applied.

An inorganic fine particle layer containing inorganic fine particles and a binder component is formed on a surface of a substrate by chemical bonding. The inorganic fine particles are coated with silane monomer each having an unsaturated bond. The content of the binder component is in the range of 0.1% by mass to 40% by mass to the content of the inorganic fine particles.

A method of making a photocatalytic material comprising a base substance and photocatalytic particles bonded on the base substance by chemical bonding through a silane compound. The chemical bonding is bonding a reactive group of the silane compound through graft polymerization to a radical produced on a resin surface of the base substance by irradiating radiation ray. The resulting photocatalytic material has the advantage that, even when used over a long time, the photocatalytic particles are less apt to shed and the resin base is less apt to deteriorate.

Method of making a photocatalytic material

A photocatalytic material which comprises a resin base and photocatalyst particles tenaciously deposited thereon in such a manner that the function of the photocatalyst is not impaired. Even when the photocatalytic material is used over long, the photocatalyst particles are less apt to shed and the resin base is less apt to deteriorate. In the photocatalytic material, the photocatalyst particles have been bonded to the base by chemical bonding through a silane compound. The photocatalytic material is characterized in that the chemical bonding through a silane compound is bonding by graft polymerization, and that the graft polymerization is radiation-induced graft polymerization.
