A receiver receives a wireless signal comprising a plurality of fields including a legacy short training field (L-STF), legacy long training field (L-LTF), and legacy signal (L-SIG) field transmitted to a plurality of antenna of the receiver. For each sub-band in a receiver bandwidth and when samples of the L-STF is received, a first angle based autocorrelation is performed to determine a group of sub-bands which maximize a magnitude based on the first autocorrelations for one or more sub-bands. For each sub-band in the receiver bandwidth and when samples of the L-LTF is received, a second angle based autocorrelation is then performed to refine the crude bandwidth pattern estimate. One or more signal fields and one or more data fields of the received signal are decoded based on the refined bandwidth pattern estimate.

Method and apparatus for bandwidth detection in wireless networks

The present disclosure describes apparatuses and methods for a configurable wireless communication chip. In some aspects, a wireless communication chip includes multiple radio paths and is capable of operating in a first communication mode that supports communication in non-contiguous segments of bandwidth and a second communication mode that does not support communication in non-contiguous segments of bandwidth. Based on a hardware configuration external to the wireless communication chip, the radio paths can be configured to operate in the first communication mode or the second communication mode. In some cases, the hardware configuration external to the wireless communication chip includes fewer antennas or amplifier paths than radio paths of the chip, such as due to cost or form-factor considerations. In such cases, the wireless communication chip can operate in the second communication mode to implement advanced communication techniques with reduced hardware, enabling flexibility to design lower cost or smaller devices.

Apparatus and methods for a configurable wireless communication chip

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a hybrid beamforming architecture are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a beamforming architecture including a baseband unit and a processor. The beamforming architecture is configured to determine a steering matrix based on at least the baseband unit and the processor; and wherein the beamforming architecture is configured to simultaneously support a plurality of beamformee client devices, each beamformee client device beamformed by a beamformer with at least one of a beamformer hardware mode and a beamformer software mode and with at least one of a beamformer explicit mode and a beamformer implicit mode.

Hybrid beamforming architecure

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a hybrid beamforming architecture are described. According to one embodiment, a first wireless device includes a transmitter and a baseband beamforming processing unit. The baseband beamforming processing unit includes a steering matrix calculation unit and a steering matrix cache. The steering matrix calculation unit is configured to derive a steering matrix from channel related information in a first packet received from a second wireless device. The steering matrix includes weights. The steering matrix cache is configured to (i) store the steering matrix derived from the channel related information, and (ii) provide the weights from the steering matrix to the transmitter. The transmitter is configured to, based on the weights from the steering matrix, perform transmit beamforming on a second packet being transmitted to the second wireless device from the first wireless device.

Hybrid beamforming architecture

A method and apparatus for: receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal on a first channel; determining a radio signal strength of the RF signal; performing a correlation of the RF signal with a predetermined sequence of a wireless data packet to determine whether the RF signal contains the predetermined sequence; in response to the RF signal not containing the predetermined sequence, generating an indication that the RF signal is not a wireless data packet; and determining whether the radio signal strength of the RF signal exceeds a predetermined threshold. In response to i) the radio signal strength exceeding the predetermined threshold and ii) the indication being generated: measuring a parameter associated with the RF signal; determining whether the RF signal is a radar signal based on the parameter; and changing from the first channel in response to the RF signal being determined to be a radar signal.

Radar detection and dynamic frequency selection

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a hybrid beamforming architecture are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes a beamforming mode detection logic configured to select a beamforming mode based, at least in part, on a packet received from a wireless device. The apparatus also includes a beamformee unit and a beamformer unit. The beamformee unit is configured to derive steering information from channel related information in the packet. The beamformer unit is configured to provide weights from a steering matrix to a transmitter performing transmit beamforming on a subsequent packet being transmitted to the wireless device. The beamforming mode detection logic routes at least part of the packet to one or both of the beamformee unit and the beamformer unit based, at least in part, on the selected beamforming mode.

A system including a counting module, a difference module, and a radar module. The counting module counts polarity reversals of samples of a signal. The samples are generated during a first period, a second period, and a third period. The counting module generates a first count, a second count, and a third count of the polarity reversals counted during the respective periods. The difference module determines a first difference between the first count and the second count, a second difference between the second count and the third count, and a third difference between the first difference and the second difference. The radar module determines variation in frequency of the signal based on the first count and the second count, and determines a type of radar present in the signal based on one or more of the third difference and the variation in the frequency of the signal.

Detection and estimation of radio frequency variations

A receiver is provided and includes a first amplifier configured to amplify, based on a first gain, a radio frequency signal to generate a first amplified signal. The radio frequency signal is received by the receiver on a first channel. A second amplifier generates, based on the first amplified signal and a second gain, a second amplified signal. An output circuit generates a baseband signal based on the second amplified signal. A first detection circuit compares the baseband signal to (i) a first threshold in response to the first gain being at a first level, and (ii) a second threshold in response to the first gain being at a second level. The first detection circuit generates a first detection signal in response to the comparison. A controller, in response to the first detection signal, (i) adjusts the second gain, or (ii) changes the receiver from the first channel.

Apparatus and methods for detection of interface in radio-frequency devices

A system including a sampling module that generates samples of RF signals on a first channel during first, second, and third periods, which do not overlap. A difference module determines a first difference between i) a first count of polarity reversals during the first period and ii) a second count of polarity reversals during the second period; a second difference between i) the second count and ii) a third count of polarity reversals during the third period; and a third difference between the first and second differences. A third module determines a frequency of the RF signals based on at least one of the first and second counts, determines a frequency variation of the RF signals based on the first and second counts, and identifies a radar type of the RF signals based on at least one of the third difference and the frequency variation.

A communication apparatus includes a radio frequency (RF) apparatus. The RF apparatus includes an amplifier, and a signal detection circuit. The amplifier receives RF signals and amplifies those signals. The amplifier has an adjustable gain value. The signal detection circuit detects whether a received signal is an out-of-band radar signal depending on the gain value of the amplifier and a characteristic of the received signal.

A system includes a sampling module, a counter module, and a frequency characteristic module. The sampling module samples radio frequency (RF) signals on a first channel for a first predetermined period and a second predetermined period that is subsequent to the first predetermined period. The counter module increments first and second counts when the samples collected during the first and second predetermined periods reverse polarity, respectively. The frequency characteristic module determines a frequency of the RF signal based on at least one of the first and the second counts and determines frequency variation of the RF signal based on the first and second counts.

A wireless network device includes a correlation module, an automatic gain control module, and a control module. The correlation module correlates a predetermined portion of a radio frequency (RF) signal and generates a correlation signal based thereon. The automatic gain control (AGC) module generates a gain control signal based on said RF signal. The control module selectively determines whether said RF signal is a radar signal based on said correlation signal and said gain control signal.
