A disc drive includes a main body having a roughly box-shaped casing and a top plate which covers the upper side of the casing, a disc tray having a disc holding portion in which an optical disc is to be placed and being movable with respect to the main body through an opening formed on the front side of the main body, and a convex portion provided on the top plate so as to protrude inside the main body and having a shape that its horizontal cross-sectional area decreases gradually toward a tip thereof. The convex portion being positioned in a region of the top plate corresponding to the disc holding portion of the disc tray in a state that the disc tray is fully inserted into the main body. The disc drive may further includes a roughly arc-shaped ridge portion formed in the region of the top plate so as to protrude inside the main body. The ridge portion also has a shape that its horizontal cross-sectional area decreases gradually toward a tip thereof. According to the disc drive having the above structure, it is possible to obtain excellent recording and playback characteristics of the optical disc.

A high-density flexible disk capable of accessing a large-capacity flexible disk is provided with a large-capacity detecting switch. The large-capacity flexible disk has a case accommodating a magnetic disk medium, with the case being provided with a write protection hole and a single large-capacity identifier hole formed in a vicinity of the write protection hole for distinguishing the large-capacity flexible disk from a small-capacity and a medium-capacity flexible disk. The large-capacity detecting switch of the high-density flexible disk is provided at a position corresponding to the large-capacity identifier hole for detecting the large-capacity identifier hole when the large-capacity flexible disk is inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive. In a preferred embodiment, the large-capacity detecting switch is integrally formed in a single unit with a write control switch for detecting open and close states of the write protection hole.

A disk cartridge includes a jacket body having upper and lower shells for receiving a magnetic disk medium therethrough. Upper and lower liners are adhered to inner surfaces of the upper and lower shells for removing fine dust attracted to upper and lower surfaces of the magnetic disk medium. In addition, upper and lower head windows are provided in the upper and lower shells, respectively, for permitting magnetic heads to access the magnetic disk medium when the magnetic disk medium is inserted through the upper and lower shells of the jacket body. Head load pressure generation means is provided that flexibly supports an upper read/write head , via a leaf spring attached to a main body , that moves forward and backward along the tracks on a magnetic data recording medium , and that adjusts the head load pressure applied to the upper read/write head in accordance with whether a high-density or a low-density magnetic data recording medium is employed. Using this means, the head load pressure and the revolutions of a chucking motor are adjusted in accordance with whether a high-density or a low-density magnetic data recording medium is employed.

A shutter unit is provided at a cartridge inserting position of the cover unit, the shutter unit being opened and closed appropriately in response to cartridge insertion. The cover unit is provided in an enclosure frame of the disk device. Resilient members are provided between the cover unit and enclosure frame.

A recording disk device comprises a sheet-like magnetic disk medium having at least one recording surface, a jacket body enclosing the magnetic disk medium and having first and second inner surfaces faced to both surfaces of the magnetic recording medium, and upper and lower liners attached to the first and the second inner surfaces of the jacket body to remove fine dust adhered to the magnetic recording medium.
