Image forming apparatus mounted with replaceable unit, image forming system, and method of controlling image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus has at least one replaceable unit replaceably mounted to an image forming apparatus main body. The image forming apparatus outputs a message purporting that a reservation of an operation mode can be received, at the timing that a replacement timing of the replaceable unit which is currently mounted is close in time. If so, prior to the replacement of the replaceable unit which is current mounted, a reservation of an operation mode for a replaceable unit which is to be mounted next time may be received. Further, if the replacement of the replaceable unit is detected, the image forming apparatus starts the control according to the reserved operation mode.

A sub-scanning position of a laser beam is detected as an analog signal by a sub-scanning position detection sensor, and is then converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter. The signal is converted into a digital value (a detection result) having the same unit system as that of a count value for generating a vertical synchronization signal. This detection result and a set count value which is a count value for generating a vertical synchronization signal are added together by an adder. This added value is input to a vertical synchronization signal generation counter as a count value for generating an actual vertical synchronization signal. The set count value which is an initial set value is set from a control panel. Accordingly, a color-image forming apparatus which is capable of correcting a registration deviation in a sub-scanning direction is easily provided.

The formation of a high-quality image at a resolution at which a dot size is smaller than the diameter of a laser beam is attained at a low cost. When an exposure operation is carried out by increasing an optical intensity of a laser beam to a level higher than that of a steady-state optical intensity thereof by utilizing a difference, which is ascribed to an exposure rate of a photosensitive body, in the condition of a latent image formed, the depth and width of a latent image, which were small in all related art cases, can be increased to high levels. Therefore, overshoot is generated at the LD lighting starting time to increase the optical intensity at a rising edge of the laser beam to a level higher than that of a steady-state optical intensity thereof, whereby a height to width ratio and the reproducibility of one dot and a halftone in a case where the resolution is smaller than the diameter of the laser beam can be improved.

A light scanning device deflects a plurality of light beams by a deflecting means performs divided scanning on a single scanning line on a photoconductor with the plurality of deflected light beams. When the scanning line is scanned, a detecting means detects a light beam passing through a predetermined position in front of a position where the light beam first strikes an image forming range on the photoconductor. An oscillating means oscillates a specified number of clocks in a time interval from when the light beam is detected by the detecting means until it is detected thereby again. An adjusting means makes adjustments so as to irradiate a plurality of light beams based on clocks oscillated by the oscillating means. In a time interval after the light beam is detected by the detecting means until it is detected thereby again, a plurality of light beams are irradiated based on the specified number of clocks. Therefore, even if unevenness occurs in the deflecting speed of the deflecting means, dots can be formed at the same intervals in scanning a plurality of scanning lines. Thus, it is possible to prevent discontinuous joints occurring in each of the images formed with a plurality of light beams.

Light scanning device, optical device, and scanning method of optical device

Plural linear marks extending along a scanning direction are spaced apart from each other at constant intervals and parallel to each other at a boundary of partial exposure ranges. When the marks are repeatedly formed by two light beams while a position of the mark formed by one of the two light beams is moved in the scanning direction, a density within a predetermined region corresponding to the boundary is changed so as to become lighter as the intervals between the marks are increased. When plural linear marks, which extend along the scanning direction and are spaced apart from each other at constant intervals and parallel to each other at a boundary portion of partial exposure ranges, are formed by two light beams while a position of the mark formed by one of the light beams is moved in a direction perpendicular to the scanning direction, a density within a predetermined region is changed so as to become lighter as an amount of offset is reduced. Accordingly, on the basis of a change in density within the predetermined region, it is possible to detect a case in which offset in beam irradiating positions in the scanning direction and the direction perpendicular to the scanning direction is zero. Offset of beam irradiating positions at the boundary can be controlled to be zero.

Light scanning devices forming electrostatic latent images on photosensitive bodies are disposed so as to correspond respectively to the plurality of photosensitive bodies which correspond to a plurality of colors, respectively. Electrooptical elements are disposed on light paths of light beams. The electrostatic latent images formed on the respective photosensitive bodies 1 are respectively developed by developing means. Developed electrostatic latent images are respectively superposed together and transferred onto a sheet, so that a color image is formed. Images-for-detecting-offset-amounts, which are formed on a conveying body by the light scanning devices, are detected, and offset amounts of images of the respective colors are detected. Based on detected offset amounts, voltages are applied to the respective electrooptical elements such that the offset amounts become values of a predetermined range.
