The present invention is directed to a system and method that includes a vehicle that exchanges information with the remote location by way of a communication network. A remote server transmits vehicle-related information to the vehicle by way of a communication system. Information may also be broadcast to and received by the vehicle by way of a broadcast communication system. A receiver of the vehicle provides user access to only a subset of the broadcast information based on user preferences of a user profile. The user may update the user profile by accessing and updating it at either the vehicle or by accessing a database. The user may access the database through a network, such as the Internet. The vehicle also selectively transmits vehicle-related information to the remote location when a predetermined event occurs. The vehicle-related information is compiled and analyzed at the remote location, and the analyzed information is transmitted back to the vehicle.

Method and system for facilitating the exchange of information between a vehicle and a remote location

An information management system and the like capable of managing communication processing by an internal system mounted on a mobile apparatus such as a motor vehicle to ensure efficient use of information processing resources for packets distributed from an external system are provided. According to the information management system (), a first processing section () determines necessity/unnecessity of a file for an information processing device () mounted on the motor vehicle based on file information about the content of the file distributed or transmitted from an external system (). If the first processing section () determines that the file is necessary for the information processing device (), a second processing section () causes the internal system () to execute 'relay processing' of the file including collection and accumulation of packets, decoding of the packets to restore the file, and others.

The invention provides systems and methods for targeting broadcast messages to particular vehicles or classes of vehicles. In one embodiment, the system comprises an information center for creating and sending a broadcast data message, and a relay section that receives the broadcast data message and relays the message to a plurality of vehicles. The information center typically comprises a one-to-many communication system for sending the message from one source to a plurality of receivers, such as a satellite radio network or the like. The message can be deleted or modified in response to commands received by the receiver.

A system capable of appropriately controlling an operation of an information processing device mounted on a mobile apparatus for effective use of information processing resources of the information processing device is provided. According to the device control system (), information processing by a first information processing device () is restricted when the first information processing device () is set to receive data through a high-speed broadcast channel. Thus, the information processing resources of the first information processing device () are primarily allocated to reception of designated data through the high-speed broadcast channel. Further, allocation of the information processing resources to information processing other than the reception of the designated data, such as information processing requested from a second information processing device (), is restricted. This prevents shortage of the information processing resources due to the execution of information processing other than the reception of the designated data, which would otherwise impair the reception of the designated data and the execution of the other information processing.

A system controlling an operation of an information processing device mounted on a mobile apparatus such as a motor vehicle to cause it to efficiently receive data, while ensuring economy of the resources of the mobile apparatus, is provided. According to the device control system (), even when the motor vehicle () is switched from the ON state to the OFF state, the first information processing device () is maintained in the ON state exceptionally when the device is set to receive data through a high-speed broadcast channel. As such, the first information processing device () is maintained in the ON state, while the motor vehicle () is in the OFF state, to allow it to receive designated data through the high-speed broadcast channel. Further, since the designated data is broadcast at high speed by the information center (), the time required for the first information processing device () to complete reception of the designated data is reduced.

The comparator then compares the supplied HVC with an HVC that is stored in a message table in a storage unit. If the HVCs compared by the comparator agree with each other, then an information output unit resets the HVC stored in the message table, and outputs the visit guidance message to an output unit.

A method and system facilitate the exchange of information between a remote location and a motor vehicle, via a targeted transmission of audio and visual broadcast messages to vehicle operators. Output of the broadcast messages may be controlled using (a) codes or identifiers in or associated with the messages, (b) one or more user inputs from the vehicle operator, (c) sensor data measuring a vehicle state, or (d) any combination of the foregoing. For example, output of the broadcast messages to vehicle operators may be controlled as to time, frequency, and format (e.g., as visual or audible data) based on any of these control inputs.
