A nuclear magnetic resonance diagnosing apparatus for continuously taking tomograms in a space formed between a pair of magnets includes a cylindrical table top support of a gantry side, a pair of magnets vertically arranged, a table top support of the gantry side being interposed between the pair of magnets; and a column for supporting at least the magnet arranged in an upper side between the pair of magnets. The column is formed so that between a gantry and an examining table body, a width between a bridge construction, which is provided between the column and the table top support of the gantry side, and the table top support of the gantry side may be smaller than an examination width L determined by lines R' passing through a center of the table top support of the gantry side perpendicular to a center line R.

A body probe for MRI has a base coil portion, two side coil portions to be connected to side-coil connecting portions provided on both sides of the base coil portion, and a center coil portions which connects the two side coil portions at the center of the chest of the subject. Each side coil portion is made of a soft member and has a flexible coil embedded inside, so that the side coil portion can have a shape which matches the side surface of the subject. Provided at the center of the two side coil portions which are to be connected to the center coil portions at the chest of the subject is a fixing band for fixing the side coil portions and the center coil portion in close contact with the subject.

In a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, picture quality of a tomographic image is prevented from deteriorating by reducing the influence due to a change in environmental magnetic field around magnetic field generating means. A phase correcting circuit for correcting the phase of a correcting current supplied to correcting magnetic field coils is provided in a correction control circuit which amplifies a detection signal representative of the change in the environmental magnetic field from a magnetic field sensor. This enables to correct the phase of a correcting magnetic field generated from the correcting magnetic field coils. The difference between the phase of the change in the environmental magnetic field and the correcting magnetic field generated by the correcting magnetic field coils can be reduced.

Method and apparatus of stabilizing uniformity of a static magnetic field in a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, wherein before adjustment of uniformity of the static magnetic field and before each actual imaging operation, pulse-like gradient magnetic fields are applied to a static magnetic field generating magnetic circuit at a maximum output level of power supplies for generation of gradient magnetic fields so as to magnetize the static magnetic field generating magnetic circuit to constant magnetization intensity.
