An electronic component is provided with a substrate, a thin-film element layer provided on the substrate, first and second bump electrodes, provided on a surface of the thin-film element layer, and an insulator layer provided between the first bump electrode and the second bump electrode. The thin-film element layer contains a first spiral conductor which is a plane coil pattern. The first bump electrode is connected to an internal peripheral end of the first spiral conductor. The second bump electrode is connected to an external peripheral end of the first spiral conductor. Both of the first and second bump electrodes, have a first exposure surface exposed to a principal surface of the insulator layer and a second exposure surface exposed to an end face of the insulator layer.

The sintered body of the present invention is a sintered body comprising alumina crystal grains and a thin film containing carbon provided at a grain boundary between the alumina crystal grains, whereas the alumina crystal grains have an average particle size of 0.05 to 0.5 &#x3bc;m.

An acceleration sensor includes a housing member, first and second magnetic field generation members with weights, a spring member with a fulcrum attached to the housing member, and first and second magnetic field detection sensors attached to the housing member to face the first and second magnetic field generation members with weights, respectively. The first and second magnetic field detection sensors have two pairs of multi-layered magnetoresistive effect elements. A magnetization fixed layer is magnetically fixed along a direction parallel to a direction of displacement of the first and second magnetic field generation members with weights.

A solid polymer electrolyte is prepared by forming a polymer solution containing a filler into a film, evaporating off the solvent from the film, and impregnating the film with an electrolytic solution. The impregnated polymer electrolyte has a swelling factor of at least 2.2. The method is efficient enough to produce the polymer electrolyte at a low cost. The polymer electrolyte is useful in electrochemical devices such as lithium secondary batteries and electric double layer capacitors.

The invention provides a solid type electric double-layer capacitor of the organic solvent system. A solid type electric double-layer capacitor including an electrolyte containing an electrolytic solution in a matrix of a fluorinated polymer prevents liquid leakage and a self-discharge phenomenon and shows performance comparable to prior art capacitors of the organic solvent system.

A magneto-optical recording disc adapted for magneto-optical recording in the magnetic field modulation system by means of a magnetic head in continuous contact with the disc includes a recording layer on a substrate and a wear resistant resinous coating thereon. The coating is formed of a resin containing carbon particles having a mean particle size of 1 to 15 .mu.m. The magnetic head is in sliding contact with the surface of the coating during operation. The coating is effective for reducing friction with the magnetic head and retains such reduced friction over a long time.

In a third form, a photochromic thin film is available comprising a pyrolytically decomposed thin film of anion-adsorptive inorganic layer-structured crystals having anionic photochromic molecules and non-polar molecules adsorbed thereto. In a fourth form, a clay thin film is prepared by forming a thin film from an aqueous dispersion containing 0.1-5% by weight of a hydrotalcite group intercalation compound, drying the film, optionally heat treating the film for excluding a guest if any, and causing functional molecules such as photochromic molecules to be adsorbed between layers of the film.

An optical information medium has on a substrate (2) with information-carrying pits (21), a light transmittance control layer (3) including a lower dielectric layer (31), a mask layer (32) and an upper dielectric layer (33). The mask layer has an original state before irradiation of reading light. Upon irradiation of a reading light beam to define a beam spot, the mask layer undergoes a crystal-to-crystal transition in a region (H) of the beam spot depending on the intensity distribution of the beam spot. Multiple reflection condition changes in the transition portion so that the beam spot contributing to read-out is limited to the transition or transition-free region (H or L). The transition temperature is in the range of 200.degree. to 450.degree. C. The mask layer returns to the original state after passage of the beam spot. The invention is also applicable to an optical recording medium having a recording layer above or below the transmittance control layer.

Optical information medium

Resin, typically polycarbonate is injection molded into a disc substrate under select conditions, for example, at a mold temperature of 100-160.degree. C., an injection velocity of 100-120 g/sec., and a pressure of 10-60 kg/cm.sup.2, such that the birefringence of a radially inner portion of the substrate is higher by about 15-50 nm than the remaining substrate. A center hole is perforated in the substrate and a hub is attached to the substrate around the center hole. At the end of hub attachment, the substrate has a uniform distribution of birefringence over the entire area. Any increase of DC modulation is thus avoided.

An optical disk includes a resinous substrate and a recording layer thereon. A hard coat layer containing conductive particles is provided on a light incident side of the substrate for protecting the substrate from physical damages and rendering the disk antistatic for preventing dust deposition.

A protective coating made of resin, preferably a radiation curable resin containing fluoroplastic fine particles having a low surface energy is provided in the form of the uppermost layer facing a magnetic head, thereby improving the frictional properties and durability of a magneto-optical disc that is used with a magnetic field modulation system in which the magnetic head comes in constant contact therewith.

In a magneto-optical recording medium comprising a perpendicular magnetizable thin film layer formed from an amorphous rare earth metal-transition metal alloy on a substrate with or without an intermediate layer, and a first protective layer formed from a plasma-polymerized film on the magnetizable layer; a second protective layer is formed on the first protective layer by curing a radiation-curable compound coating and/or an undercoat layer of a plasma-polymerized film is formed on the substrate in order to improve the moisture proofness of the magnetic layer. The substrate may be plasma treated to improve adherence. Covering the overall outside surface of the medium with a cured film of a radiation-curable compound ensures best shelf stability.
