An inverter device includes a power supply unit and a switch controller. The power supply unit supplies AC power to an AC motor whose electric characteristics in response to a rotation speed are switchable between low speed characteristics and high speed characteristics. The switch controller switches the electric characteristics of the AC motor. The switch controller executes switching control that alternately switches the electric characteristics of the AC motor between the low speed characteristics and the high speed characteristics on the basis of the rotation speed of the AC motor.

Inverter device and motor drive system

A resonant gate drive circuit for a power switching device, having a gate-emitter capacitance, is adapted for use with a high frequency power converter. The resonant gate drive circuit comprises a signal input source, a power supply and a resonant inductor. An electrical isolator is connected between the signal input source and a switching node. The electrical isolator is connected to the power supply. A first bidirectional switch is connected between the resonant inductor and the power switching device and includes a first switch control circuit connected to the node to be controlled by a signal from the signal input source. A second bidirectional switch is connected between the power supply and the power switching device and includes a second switch control circuit connected to the node to be controlled by the signal from the input source. The first and second control circuits are adapted to control the first bidirectional switch to provide a first charge path during a resonant period from the resonant inductor to the gate-emitter capacitance defining a quick resonant charge path and to control the second bidirectional switch to provide a second charge path defining a voltage equalization charge path subsequent to the resonant period.

Resonant gate drive circuit for a power switching device in a high frequency power converter

A variable frequency drive comprises a diode rectifier receiving multiphase AC power from a source and converting the AC power to DC power. An inverter receives DC power and converts the DC power to AC power to drive a load. A link circuit is connected between the diode rectifier and the inverter and comprises a DC bus to provide a relatively fixed DC voltage for the inverter. A bus capacitor is across the bus. A soft charge circuit limits inrush current to the bus capacitor. The soft charge circuit comprises an inductor connected between the source and the link circuit and a switch circuit in the link circuit for selectively providing a semiconverter configuration or a full bridge converter configuration to provide two stage charging of the bus capacitor.

Low stress soft charge circuit for diode front end variable frequency drive

A variable frequency drive comprises a diode rectifier receiving multiphase AC power and converting the AC power to DC power. An inverter receives DC power and converts the DC power to AC power to drive a load. A link circuit is connected between the diode rectifier and the inverter and comprises a DC bus to provide a relatively fixed DC voltage for the inverter. A link capacitor is across the bus. A soft charge circuit limits in rush current to the link capacitor. The soft charge circuit comprises an inductor in the bus and a resistor assist circuit across the inductor along with an anti-parallel clamping thyristor reverse connected also across the inductor.

Variable frequency drive soft charge circuit

It is an object to provide a winding switching device of a three-phase AC motor having a small size at a low cost in which a time required for switching a winding is shortened and the number of semiconductor switch units is decreased as much as possible. In a winding switching device of a three-phase AC motor including an AC motor in which a winding having each phase is formed by a plurality of windings and a connecting terminal connecting the windings to each other and both terminals of the winding having the phase are provided on an outside of a motor, winding switching means for properly switching the connecting terminal, and a variable frequency power source for supplying a variable voltage having a variable frequency to the AC motor, the winding switching means is constituted by a plurality of three-phase rectifying means connecting one of ends of the winding having the phase to the variable frequency power source and connecting the other end and the connecting terminal to an input terminal on an AC side of the three-phase rectifying means for each phase, and a semiconductor switch provided to open and close both ends on a DC output side of the three-phase rectifying means.

Apparatus for switching windings of AC three-phase motor

A noise attenuation circuit is disclosed for use in a motor drive system. The motor drive system includes a pulse width modulated inverter providing three phase power output on three phase conductors for driving a motor. The noise attenuation circuit includes a common mode transformer including a common mode choke having a core, with first, second and third choke windings on the core, each connected in series with one of the three phase conductors, and a fourth winding on the core. A three phase iron core transformer creates a neutral point representing common mode voltage. The iron core transformer has three primary windings connected in a wye configuration. A capacitor circuit is connected between the iron core transformer and the three phase conductors to prevent saturation of the iron core transformer during pulsed DC operating conditions. The fourth winding is connected between the neutral point and the DC bus and develops a common mode voltage that is equal and opposite to that existing in the system. This common mode voltage, when impressed across the three choke windings, effectively cancels the systems' common mode voltage thereby reducing the common mode current significantly.
