A polyester resin film laminated metal sheet having a metal sheet and a polyester resin film on at least one surface. The polyester resin film is 41 to 58 weight percent polybutyelene terephthalate and 42 to 59 weight percent polyethylene terephthalate. This composition provides the polyester resin film laminated metal sheet with an improved resistance to milky discoloration during retort treatment.

A method for producing a tin free steel having double layers consisting of a lower layer of flatly deposited metallic chromium and an upper layer of insoluble hydrated chromium oxide which is characterized by a dissolution of soluble hydrated chromium oxide after the formation of three layers consisting of a bottom layer of metallic chromium, a middle layer of insoluble hydrated chromium oxide and an upper layer of soluble hydrated chromium oxide on a steel base by using a chromic acid electrolyte with a small amount of fluoride compound. By using this tin free steel, a welded can body can be produced at high speed without the removal of the plated layer in the welded part because this tin free steel has an excellent weldability.

A method for producing a copolyester resin film laminated metal sheet having an excellent heat resistance which comprises laminated a biaxially oriented copolyester resin film having specified characteristics on one or both sides of a metal sheet coated with a single layer of hydrated chromium oxide or a double layer consisting of a lower layer of metallic chromium and an upper layer to hydrated chromium oxide which has been heated to a temperature of Tm-50.degree. C. to Tm, where Tm represents the melting temperature of said copolyester resin film. This copolyester resin film laminated metal sheet is suitable for the materials for can stock which is reheated for curing the coated lacquer or treated with hot steam for sterilization of food after packing food in the cans, such as deeply drawn cans, drawn and redrawn cans, can ends, screwed caps and crown caps.

A copolyester resin film laminated metal sheet having excellent formability and a method for its production is disclosed. This disclosure comprises laminating a biaxially oriented copolyester resin film having specified characteristics, to one or both sides of a surface treated metal sheet, which has been heated to the melting point of the copolyester resin film .+-.50.degree. C., just before the lamination of the copolyester resin film. This film has been precoated with a resin composite containing in its molecular structure at least one radical, such as epoxy radical and hydroxyl radical. The side of the copolyester resin film pre-coated with resin composite is in contact with the surface treated metal sheet. This copolyester resin film laminated metal sheet is suitable for some applications in which severe formability is required, such as deeply drawn cans formed by multiple drawings, drawn and partially ironed cans, drawn and stretch formed cans, can ends wherein a tab for easy opening is attached, screwed caps and crown caps.

A polyethylene film is heat bonded to a metal sheet provided with a layer of hydrated chromium oxide, and possibly a layer of metallic chromium under the oxide layer. The laminated metal sheet is then rapidly quenched, and the polyethylene laminate is irradiated with an electron beam, gamma rays, or X-rays. Alternatively, the polyethylene film may be irradiated prior to lamination. A steel foil for drawing a container with an organic film coat which is characterized of superior drawability, which includes 0.06% and under carbon, 0.1 to 0.5% manganese, 0.01 to 0.10% aluminum and the balance of iron and inevitable impurities, and the foil having a crystal grain size which is 7.5 to 10 in grain size number (JIS G 0552) and the foil having a ratio of peak values of P(222) to P(200) in intensity of X-ray diffraction in a plane parallel to a sheet surface, i.e. a P(222)/P(200) ratio, which is larger than 0.6 and which has a yield strength of 20 to 45 kg/mm.sup.2 and a thickness of 50 to 100 .mu.m.

A surface treated steel sheet having double layers consisting of a lower layer of metallic chromium and an upper layer of hydrated chromium oxide are formed on a low tin plated steel sheet in which 30 to 80% of the surface of the steel sheet is covered with plated tin. This surface treated steel sheet is suitable for producing a welded can body without removing the plated layer at high speed, since it is excellent in weldability, lacquer adhesion and corrosion resistance after lacquering.

A method for the production of a metal sheet covered with polyester resin film which comprises laminating a biaxially oriented polyester resin film which has been precoated uniformly with a small amount of an epoxy resin containing a curing agent of epoxy resin to a metal sheet covered with double layer consisting of an upper layer of hydrated chromium oxide and a lower layer of metallic chromium, which metal sheet has been heated to a temperature of 220.degree. C. to below the melting point of polyester resin film, in the condition wherein the surface of said polyester resin film precoated with an epoxy resin containing the curing agent of epoxy resin contacts the metal sheet. Surface treated steel sheet having three layers consisting of a bottom layer of metallic chromium, a middle layer of metallic tin or tin-nickel alloy and a top layer of hydrated chromium oxide on a steel base, and a method for the continuous production of this surface treated steel sheet which comprises; (1) chromium plating on a steel base to form a layer of metallic chromium and hydrated chromium oxide, (2) tin plating by using a tin plating electrolyte having a low concentration of stannous ion or tin-nickel alloy plating by using a known tin-nickel alloy plating electrolyte, said electrolytes have a low current efficiency for tin or tin-nickel alloy plating, thereby removing said layer of hydrated chromium oxide from said chromium plated steel base; and (3) forming a layer of hydrated chromium oxide by a chromate treatment by using an acidic electrolyte containing hexavalent chromium ion. Instead of the process (2) in the above method, a cathodic treatment of chromium plated steel base in an acidic solution having a pH of 0.5 to 2.0 can be carried out for the removal of hydrated chromium oxide formed during chromium plating, and thereafter, tin or tin-nickel alloy plating by using a known tin or tin-nickel alloy plating electrolyte can be performed. By using this surface treated steel sheet, a welded can body can be produced at high speed without the removal of the plated layer in the welded part since it has an excellent weldability.
